No visit to Dubuque is complete without riding the Fourth Street Elevator.

elevator.gif

Also known as the Fenelon Place Elevator Company.

The Worlds Shortest, Steepest, Scenic railway.
Offering excellent views of Downtown Dubuque, the Mississippi river and a peek into three states.
This railway is 296 feet in length and a view from 189 feet above the fourth street shopping district.
Be sure to take a ride at night. It can be as breathtaking as the views during the day.
Boarding the elevator can be done at the top or at bottom of the bluff.

For more information on the history and other interesting details of the Fenelon place elevator see their website:

Count us in.

Note this not a large campground so most of the 50amp full hook ups are still pretty close. A very nice pool and campsites

There is so much to do while your in the area for the Iowa chapter Rally in Dubuque, Iowa..

Shopping:

Cablecar square

At the base of the 4th street elevator is a collection of small shops and businesses offering a wide variety of unique products, gifts, and services.

One of my favorite places is the Calico Bean Market. Located at 352 Bluff street, The Calico Bean Market offers a wide assortment of bulk spices, baking supplies and many other items at reasonable prices. The Calico Bean Market is a great place to stock up on items not usually found in the regular stores.

Will this chapter rally take the place of the Heartland Regional Oktoberfest rally?? We had a great time last year and were looking forward to returning again this year.

There isn't going to be a North Central Regional Rally this year, but Dan and I are going to be hosting the Indiania rally in Shipshewanna in October. This weekend will be a Harvest festival along with all kinds of activities in the area. Hope to see everyone there. This Rally Hoyt and Mary had planned and we knew what they were going to do and we are going to try to follow through..

I am sorry, I did not plan for a chapter rally during Octoberfest this year. The past rallies in the Amanas have been Regional type rallies and not chapter rallies. I would be happy to consider a chapter rally there in the future. Due to all the other non-rally. activities on Saturday during Octoberfest, It can get hectic trying to schedule that location. The weather can be really variable there and so a rally hall is really a must have if you plan events there.

I too, have enjoyed the rallies there and find it a popular location.

Please attend the rally in Dubuque, With so much to see and do in Dubuque and surrounding areas, I am sure you will enjoy this rally, too.

Site Seeing Dubuque: Lock and Dam 11
http://www.mvr.usace.army.mil/Missions/Recreation/MississippiRiverProject/Recreation/LockDam11.aspx

The US Army Corps of Engineers maintain a series of locks and dams on the Mississippi river.
The locks and dam are used to help maintain a specific water level in addition to the river channel to aid navigation and allow the passage of large boats and barges from Coon Rapids Minnesota to the Gulf of Mexico.

Walking tours of the Lock and Dam are offered on Sundays 2PM. See website for details.

An outdoor boat / wildlife viewing observation deck, restrooms, and picnic area.

This is a great location to watch eagles, or see the Barges and other boats up close.
Lock & Dam 11 is located on the north end of Dubuque off of Kerper Boulevard.
