Central Vac

Our central vac housing seems a little high on the steps. It wont pick up any dirt that you sweep to it. Is it suppost to be setting at the floor or have a little space between the floor and the pickup on the bottom. Bob :D:D:eek:

Ricky, I understand that part of it but the directions say you can sweep stuff to the unit and it will suck it up without the hose. I just think that is set too high from the floor. Bob :D

Bob, mine is about 1/4 " off the floor. works great. You just pull up on the cover, don't open it, and it takes all the yuck away. Ours has pretty good suction too. If it had a powered vac head with brushes, I'd get rid of my other one.
I can take a close-up pic if you want?

Bob ..I don't think ours will even run unless the the hose is inserted. Thats a question will have to ask the DW the vac. specialist.;)..Ken

Yes Ken they will. I kicked it a couple of times and it lifts up and the suction is off and running with out the door up. Have DW show you how it works. Might come in handy some day.:p Nothing like having a good auto suck around sometime. Bob:D:D:eek:

Mine is close enough to the floor to be able to slide it up and sweep into it.

I contaced Eureka about trying to get a power head for the Yellow Jacket. After several attempts and a phone call, they finally responded. They do not carry the Yellow Jacket anymore. That has been passed on to Electrolux (so I was told). So, I've contacted them about getting a power head. Nope, haven't heard from them either. I believe that if I had a power head, vacuuming would be much more successful. It has the power, just no power head!

Thanks Jim, I did check the canister and even replaced the bag but still no change. Going to pull the wall in the storage area where the unit is and check the suction hose coming to the unit. If it is a flexible hose it may have a sharp bend cutting off some of the air flow.

On a side note.... we are new to RV'ing and have picked up a wealth of information on this forum. Thanks to everyone who adds to it and to you Jim for the way you oversee things.

Here is the EurekaPower Paw I bought one from our local Eureka dealer. They charged me about $25. The web site shows $15. However you have freight. It works real well for as small as it is, but then again there isn't much floor area in a fifth wheel.

My vacuum is 1/4" off floor and sucks superbly. Unfortunately my DW hasn't opened the box to put the hose together. Does the Power Paw work on all of the vacs in the rigs? And is there other choices for power heads? People with dirty shoes seem to wander in to see the splendor and that linoleum and beige carpet dirty quickly.

Mountainlovers76, check the connection between the vac and the floor sweep. It may have separated causing a vacuum loss.
larryheadhunter, etal, we use the beater head from our stick house central vac. It works really well. I have seen them on ebay although not cheap. I think they were a couple hundred bucks.

I think most of those power heads are pretty universal. They all just run off vacuum. I just went with the Eureka because thats what my central is.

We use the central vac just to do light vacuming. Then pull out or canister for deep cleaning. We usually leave our shoes in front of the door, that way guests trip on them when entering and get the hint real quick and take off their shoes.

Thanks. That was the cause of the poor suction on the vac. It was not even connected under the steps to the bedroom where the floor sweep is mounted. There is a bracket that mounts inside the step behind where the hole that is cut out and has the suction hose to the unit clamped to it. The bracket stands almost an inch away from the hole. The floor sweep face plate has about a 1 1/2 inch nipple on the backside that goes through the hole and slides into the bracket and into the suction hose. Problem was on mine the nipple was to short. With the plywood and carpet over it and standoff of the bracket, there was over 1/2" gap between the two and it was sucking air mostly from under the steps to the bedroom. Appreciate everyone's help. :)
