Help Finding an RV Park in Florida Keys

We are finally starting the trip of a lifetime in a new chapter of our lives. Our first trip out is not until November, but it is just around the corner so I am asking for some advice with Florida RV parks. I have heard different things about the Keys so I am asking. Where is the place to stay. Anywhere between half way and the southern most point. Website pics always show better then reality, so counting on some experience....Thanx all...maybe we can meet there as well....F&D

There is an RV Park at mile marker 5 on US1. It is Boyds RV Park. We stayed there once when we had our Alfa Gold. The Alfa was 40foot long and we broke out the back side window trying to get into their tight sights from their narrow streets. So although the park is a nice park if you have a 'big rig' I would not recommend them. They told us it was fine but it was not. There are other RV Parks along the was. I know Encore has one on Sunshine Key. Better go to the bank first as you ought to be prepared to pay around $90 a night.

Funny you mention that park. I mapped that park because of the website. So thanx on being a little tight. I know we stayed at Musicland Kampground in Brandon a few years ago with our 34 foot Big Horn and that was tight. I could not imagine going back there with this LM. Strike that one..

We stayed at Grassy Key Park in Marathon for a month this past January. We had a good experience there. Nice pool, right on the ocean, a quarter mile from a paved trail that went all the way to the Seven Mile Bridge.

Two years ago we stayed at the Jolly Roger RV park in Marathon for 10 days and thoroughly enjoyed it.

We also stayed at Jolly Roger in Marathon 2 yrs ago and it is a very nice but crowded park. Last year we discovered a small park (BoneFish Bay) , on the water near Key Colony / Marathon. They have some great sites on the bay but are always fully booked in Jan-Mar.

You might be able to get in there in Nov as that is their slow season. See pictures below, and check with Mark Fleer at www.bonefishbay.com

Well I spoke to soon. I sent the reservation request in but after a week, still have heard nothing. Guess it's time to call or find something else....

Jolly Roger is the best, we go there every year, except this one. The people that run it are the nicest and they now own a Big Horn.

We just wrapped up two weeks at the military campground at NAS Key West. Can't beat that one if you qualify! We're at Point of View Resort in Key Largo now, and it is definitely the nicest place we've stayed in Florida.

Jolly Roger is also a PA park, but PA rates are invalid on Dec. 01. The PA rates are for 5 nights. We stayed there in 2010, and thought it was a nice place.

We will be traveling to the Florida Keys in two weeks. We will be staying at Grassy Key RV Park. This is my dream vacation and can't wait to get started. Is there anything or anyplace that is a must see while we are there. I have a big list of things to do in Key West but would like to explore all the Keys. Also we are going to Ortona South after we leave the Keys. I hope it is also a nice place.

Be sure to eat just down the road at Grassy Key Outpost - everything we ate there was excellent but the meatloaf was my favorite - unlike any I'd had before.

Every park I have contacted via internet as requested on their site has resulted in no response from them. Amazing. I guess business is really good. Anyway, I had heard Blue Key was really moving to only MH and not accepting 5th wheels or trailers in general. I guess the KOA and / or the state park look good.

Not so with Blue water Key....We just made a reservation for next year in July with our fifth wheel...

Bill and I have stayed at Sunshine Key - it is nice and very large CG - I'm sure they will have spots in Nov. Its at the southern side of the 7 mile bridge. Check them out

We have stayed there several times and were able to get a site on the water. Good idea to rinse off the under carriage every few days and the whole trailer before leaving. The salt air is sticky and will cause surface rust to show up. Try the cracked egg down the street for breakfast.
