Trouble deciding which model

Hello,

We are looking into purchasing a new 5th wheel. We currently have a 33' Savoy and are now looking at several models of the Big Country. We both love the 3500 RL but are a little concerned about the length at 38' 1".

There are just the two of us, but we want lots of kitchen counter space - concerned the 3300 RL is too little.

We would like to hear some thoughts about any difficulties getting into smaller RV campgrounds with the larger trailer?

We will be towing with a 2007 Dodge 3500 Single Axle - Long Bed.

Thanks for any thoughts,
Steve

We recently purchased a 2009 3355RL Big Country. The kitchen counter space is acceptable especially with the little pop up section of counter that is actually pretty stable. We love the floorplan where the bedroom is an actual room of its own. Very happy with the quality of our unit so far. After much shopping around and research it was easy to conclude the Heartland and Big Country in particular were the best value.

Our model is 35 feet and because it is a 5th wheel it is quite manueverable. Good luck.

We have the '06 BH 3500RL. Looking at the floorplan of the BC 3500RL it looks the same as ours. Apparently they just moved this floorplan from the BH to BC. We really like our unit. There is lots of counterspace with the island. I am a quilter and the island is the right height to put my cutting mat on.
There have been a few campgrounds that the length has been an issue but have never had to leave because of it. Spent this past winter exploring Florida so we were in 8 different CG.
Have made a couple modifications to make it more liveable for us as we fulltime in it. Still have lots of space that hasn't been used.

We have a 38 foot Landmark. (Actually if you measure it, it measures 40 feet from tip of hitch to rear cap). Prior to the Landmark we towed a 40 foot Alfa Gold. Neither unit gave us any problems except one time in Key West, Florida. That campground was tight and we broke a window (in the Alfa) traversing the roads in the campground. (Mile marker 5 in Key West) We are sure we tell the campground how big we are and prefer a pull-through site. Once you get used to it we wouldn't have anything smaller. Our advise is to get what works for you. After all you are the one that will be using it and having to pull it around. Also, when looking up RV parks in the camping guides look for the ones that are "big rig friendly". Good luck.

We have the BC 2950RK, maybe a little smaller than what you are looking for at just under 34' from hitch to tail but we love the floorplan. The kitchen in the rear is absolutely great for functionality. The DG :))) can be in the kitchen cooking while others can enter and exit the coach without going through "her space". Not to mention the two couchs make it great for lounging in your own space. Bathroom and bedroom are actually two separate spaces. The bathroom can be used by other without disburbing us in the bedroom. We love the layout!

Thank you all for your comments. We opted to buy the 3500 and just brought it home today :) We're heading to Yellowstone next week and can't wait to put our new rig to good use.
