Hey Ya'll,
Got a 2014 4100, Genny charges batteries but when on shore power, no dice. Is there a internal fuse that goes from the inverter to the batteries?
Thanks fellas

Re: Inverter not charging batteries

Two things to check, is the transfer switch working, you should hear it clunk when you plug in your rig. There are 3 - 30 amp fuses on the converter.

Make sure the breaker for the converter is on (turn it all the way off, then back on). Check behind the cargo bay area to be sure the converter is plugged in (they have been know to vibrate unplugged). If you have a volt meter, check the voltage from the converter. Check that no mini breakers on your breaker bus (should be located near the batteries) are tripped. There is a very small button on the side of them.

Re: Inverter not charging batteries

If the converter is charging the battery while on generator power, that proves out the electrical path from generator, through part of the transfer switch, to the circuit breaker panel, through the circuit breaker that powers the converter, through the converter, and on through the 12V mini-circuit breaker and buss bar finally to the battery.

If that same path doesn't work on shore power, the areas that are suspect are 1) the power pedestal, 2) your power cord, especially as it attaches to the RV, 3) the shore power input side of the transfer switch.

If you're losing one power leg on the shore power side, that would explain why the battery isn't getting charged, but you would also see some other devices or outlets that have lost power.

Let us know what you find.

In April 2014 (first trip) we found that the power plug had worked loose on our converter therefore wouldn't charge the batteries. Had to go behind the wall to find the plug. Second trip came loose again so we had to zip tie the plug so it wouldn't come loose again. Haven't had a problem since then.
