Brake problem

We have a Bighorn 3400RL, pulled by a Dodge 3500. When driving even as slow as 30-35 mph and having to stop quick, it feels as if someone rear ended us. There's a real loud bumping noise and jerking. Anyone ever experienced this? We've only had it a few months and only taken it out once.

JJ,

I'd be making tracks back to your dealer to have the brake system looked at. There could be several things happening and it just doesn't pay to risk towing your beautiful BigHorn with out knowing exactly what's the problem.

You say it's like some one rear ending you....

Could be the brake controller is really locking the brakes up even with the low speed. Could be there is movement in your hitch... just not enough information from your description to tell. Could be there is lose brake shoes... causing them to move about inside the Brake Drum when they are applied.

No need to risk causing a problem while towing... please get the whole brake system looked at by your dealer.

My thinking is if you get jerked the break controller is to aggressive. If you get hit ,it is not aggressive enough. Your case sounds like the truck is stopping before the RV.
Do you have a good controller?
