Unhappy with the trim fit at the end of the walls on the couch slidout

We were unhappy with the way the carpet was not trimmed correctly and a half inch was stuffed up the end of the wall between the end of the wall and the trim. Also stuffed up in there was some folded over rubber material that is used as a seal between the slide out and the rubber gasket on the inside of the exterior wall of the unit.

Rather than cut these items to fit in one layer they were just folded over a couple of times and stapled in. There were several staples that were not in all the way and some were sticking out 1/8 inch.

So we decided to try and make it better. It turned out OK and we just have to get some molding and colored filler to fill the nail holes. If the wall covering was cut just a little bit closer the the end of the wall, we might have gotten away without having to add the extra molding. Plus this area was never intended to be seen as the original furniture would hide it from view.

The furniture in there is modular and just comes out and the backs to the couches just slide up and out. The triangular pieces that the coaster are attached to and that also provide stability to the frame were cracked as the grain ran the wrong way. Plywood would have been a better choice. I will replace them with wood that won't crack. It's a mute point in a way, since today we bought some lightweight swivel recliners to use in there.

So here are some photos of what we did not like and how we changed it.
