It official! Our 2017 Spring Rally will be at the beautiful Little Creek RV Park, Alto, NM, from the 4th through the 7th of May, 2017. This is a beautiful park located just a short hop north of the Flying J Wrangler's. Toni, the owner and manager, is most gracious and accommodating and has currently reserved 20 sites for us during this time frame.

The sites are easy access with full hookups. There is also a wonderful meeting room that will be ours for the duration of the rally.

Some events we are thinking of:
1) First night (Thursday): Mexican Pile-On provided by your Chapter Leaders for a nice, easy meal for the Meet & Greet, followed by games (Mexican Train, Golf card game, etc.)

2) 2nd night (Friday).....: Caravan to Dinner at the Inn of the Mountain Gods "Gathering of the Nations Buffet" (http://innofthemountaingods.com/dini...ations-buffet/ (http://innofthemountaingods.com/dining/gathering-of-nations-buffet/)). Friday night is the Seafood Special (Seniors 55 and older $20.99, non-seniors is $24.99). Followed by free time at the Casino or see a show at Club 49 in the Casino (http://innofthemountaingods.com/entertainment/club-49/).
ste
*NOTE* If you want to do the buffet on Saturday, it is not a seafood buffet (regular buffet) and the price is $16.99 Seniors/$18.99 non-seniors. If this is the consensus, we'll swap Saturday night activities to Friday and move the buffet outing to Saturday.

3) 3rd night (Saturday)..: Potluck dinner/desserts followed by Dance and Karaoke with music provided by DJ at the RV park meeting room. We'll play bingo games to win some prizes, have prize drawings, as well as a 50-50 raffle (proceeds split evenly between the winner and your NM club to help pay for future events).

4) Sunday - Depart for home or next destination

If we don't make this one . . . you can bet that we will be at one down there in NM soon!

Plus, we will be in Pueblo, CO at the HOC Regional Rally in 2018 . . . and I know you guys will be there!

We are also booked in at the National Rally in Vegas this October and at Lake Havasu in January, 2017!

I am the official bastard stepchild of the Arizona HOC Chapter :p . . . so I will be around! :cool:

By the way . . . we might still have some availablilty at the Colorado HOC Fall Rally at Mountaindale (Colorado Springs) if you can make it.

Mountaindale is quite possibly the best campground in the whole western US of A!

We'll be there, too!

We would be arriving 3 May and stay for 7 nights.

And, I would also like to say that we would both love a Friday night seafood buffet.

Hey Folks we are getting set for our big inaugural rally in May at The Little Creek RV Park in Alto, NM. We are getting our events all figured out and will be posting the itinerary in a few days. We plan to have plenty to keep you busy and be able to visit with your friends. Keep an eye out for some surveys in your email so we can plan some special events to ensure your ultimate enjoyment of the rally. We are right at 19 attendees according to my list. Please check the list on the event post and let me know if I missed anyone! We can't wait to get out in our RV!

We have heard Toni hasn't been answering the phone and believe she may be on a vacation. Rest assured she promised us 20 spots so I am sure we have those. First time RV Owner (2017 Road Warrior 427) and interested in attending the rally in Alto. Is there any space left and would we just need to call Toni to see if we can get a spot?

I will continue to try to contact her and let you all know when I get through. In the meantime, happy trails and we will see you in May! God Bless!

Mike & Kim, from what I hear you want to be sure and take your "ANTI-JOHND" Sun glasses. They will prevent you from getting sore eyes. You need to be careful cause I understand he runs around in a Yellow hardhat and cowboy chaps. Most cameras will not focus when pointed toward him I am told and the battery may even go dead. I think some of the other Heartlanders are trying to train him, but don't know how it's working.

Just go and have fun. :)

Evenings will / may still have a chill so be sure to have layering clothes/jackets. There is a casino we will be eating at on Friday, so if that is your thing, you may need cash, lol. I can't think of anything special needed, camera for the beautiful scenery. We were there last fall and our friends were watching Elk near the campgrounds!

That is a shame that she doesn't think she can get you in but you are more than welcome to come and join the party! I did a quick search online for the other RV parks that are nearby. We visited the Mountain High RV Park on NM Hwy 48 which is the highway we come in on to get to Little Creek, it is woodsy and I suggest you check out their website at mthighrv.tripod.com 575-336-4236, the rate is $35.00 per couple.

There is another park just down the road from Little Creek called Ruidoso Motorcoach Ranch which we did not stop at so all I have to go by is the reviews and they are raving good. Website is ruidosomotorcoachranch.com 575-336-4556. I am not sure if they only allow Class A or not and the rates are $76.00 a night! OUCH!

We stayed at Bonito Hollow RV Park and Campground, bonitohollow.com 575-336-4325 it was crowded, the sites are very close to one another but it was a nice park, $39/night. We drove by the Along the River RV Park, it is next to Bonito Hollow, alongtheriverrv.com 575-336-4444, $35 +3.00/night 50amp. We visited the Eagle Creek RV Resort also. It was nice, eaglecreekrvresort.com 575-336-1131, $35/night.

Those are the closest parks. There are more but I didn't flood you. Let me know what you decide to do. --Shelley

The party is on! :cool:

John, at 78 years old, I'm not the party animal I used to be. The 'Lil Guy's reputation precedes him. Though I did start a wild fire at the W Texas rally while attempting to cook steaks (Rum) and almost fell in the fire ring at the Regional rally in Branson (Fireball), I'm pretty laid back. The party animal from Texas is Ted. He's easy to find after dark. Just look for the circus tent with the pink flamingos. He'll be the one in the flat hat. Then there is Tiger Lily, Ed's wife. She sometimes gets out of control. Jimtoo described your rally attire. The hardhat is OK but if the chaps are as-less, that could be another thing.
Debbie and I are looking forward to meeting everyone at the rally. Later and have a great day.

With your set up and the new add on along with my new matching gear, we might need 100amps to light it all up.lol I didn't get the neon sign but did get an LED sign with a little motion to it and 2 LED pink flamingos for an added touch. I'm getting another fever and the only cure is a Thursday or Friday morning Breakfast Extravaganza. If any are interested, I'll do the bacon and sausage for the meal. Is this something the rally might be interested in? If so let me know.

We think it is a great idea!!!! Thanks Lil'Guy. On Friday we were planning coffee and donuts at 9. Would you like to do it in conjunction with that? Anyone else want to jump in?The disc brake presentation is at 10.

9:00 AM Friday would be great. Now I just need for Ted to volunteer to help with the bacon grease patrol while we cook.lol (wear your fire retardant clothing) Some side recommendations would be Fried Potatoes, cheesy grits, more fried potatoes, egg dishes, biscuits and gravy, gravy and biscuits, fried potatoes, Fruit, etc.
Did I mention fried potatoes and biscuits and gravy?
Let's see if New Mexico can help create a Breakfast Extravaganza the likes of the Texas and La. chapters are known for.
BTW: onions and peppers are good in potatoes also.
Again, volunteers for the side dishes. I guarantee there will be enough bacon and sausage.

Now I'm hungry. See everyone at the rally

I can't imagine anyone not liking homemade tortillas. Maybe someone needs to cook up some greasy chorizo with onions and peppers cooked in the grease. Ought to be some Chile eaters in N Mex. A few fried potatoes, mixed in makes my favorite breakfast dish. Slap in a few scrambled eggs, wrap it up, and walla. Now all you need is a Bloody Mary. Calling Susan with the BM. I can attest to her BMs, and so can George Speir.

Thanks for the help Ted. We'll have to stay up late Thursday night planning this out. I'll meet you in Margarita Ville. Come to think of it, I'll meet you there sooner than that. Later and have a great day.

I'm toooo old for that stuff. A bottle in Branson was enough for me. Just too easy to drink in massive quanities.lol I don't want to get barred from the Mountain district for HL on my 1st trip. Besides, I'm 78, 5'6", 365lbs and carry a portable oxygen tank around with me on wheels. Then you add the diabetes, high blood pressure, pacemaker installed and bad circulation, you can understand why I try not to smoke more than 2 1/2 packs of cigs and drink more than a qt of rum per day.
Again, I like wine , Spiced Rum, and Vodka. I have been known to set sail with the Captain at these rallies but I'll probably leave the FB alone.
I'm getting a little excited about this event. Let's get it on.

It sounds like we need advanced medication for this event. I'll bring bottles of Crown, Sailor Jerry, and assorted other meds to help ease the pain of those aching joints and other issues. I think a campfire is in order where we can administer these tinctures and tonics while we solve the problems of the world. If you're looking for a campfire, you won't have to look far. Just look for Ted's Margaritaville set up. Just look for the brightest campsite there.

Really would like to have heard a little more about the Breakfast Extravaganza participation. It's kind of like Stone soup. I'm supplying enough bacon and sausage for the event plus some. It is a pot luck breakfast and everyone we've had since we started were amazing. I'm hoping this one will top them all. I haven't heard but a few that were bringing something to the event. We have gravy coming, tortillas, George is bringing some scrambled eggs but not enough for everyone.
So, how about someone cooking some fried potatoes or hash browns, egg dishes, biscuits to go with the gravy, etc.
Basically what I'm asking is if everyone is interested. It makes a great way to meet everyone and I'm hoping more of you show interest in it. If you have a dish to bring, please post up so can see where we are with this.
Thanks in advance and looking forward to meeting everyone there. Later and have a great day.

Okay Folks we are really getting so stoked for this rally!!! So tired of work can't wait to get away and socialize with like minded, RV people! Toni called and she has really gone the extra mile to make room for everyone that wants to come. She is starting to feel better too! She told Howard she has confirmed all spots except for one that wasn't sure if they would be able to make it (the name slipped her mind as she was away from the park and didn't have her reservation book with her). As you may have seen the Paden's (2ToGo) had to drop out. We will miss them and the Craker's (DavidCraker) but know we will cross paths somewhere down the road. Lil' Guy is organizing BREAKFAST EXTRAVAGANZA on Friday morning at 0830. Here is what we have so far for that event:

Frank & Ted: Bacon & Sausage;
Debbie: Biscuits;
Dee: Homemade tortillas;
Ann Haddock: Sausage gravy;
George: Scrambled Eggs;
Gregg & Linda: Hashbrowns;
Jim B: Scrambled Eggs;
Shelley & Howard: Egg and Potato Casserole;
NM Chapter: Donuts & Coffee

Looks like the spread is spreading out! We will also put the word out at the Meet and Greet and give folks a chance to add to this potluck breakfast but I think we are off to a great start. We are just 15 days away!

Question to those who have been to Alto . . .

Coming from Denver I'm looking at heading south on I-25, stopping in Las Vegas, NM at the KOA, then south again on I-25 to San Antonio, NM, then east on 380 to the Rally.

Is that the best route? :confused:

Or is there a better way to get to that pot of gold (the HOC Rally, of course) at the end of the rainbow? :cool:

Rockin_Dollar_B
04-19-2017, 11:23 PM
JohnD, you may want to look at the Hwy 84 just south of Las Vegas NM to Vaughn, then 54 to Carrizozo then 380 to 37 to Alto. The only thing on those hwys would be gas stops. I am on my phone and it is hard to manipulate the Google map to see those. And we have never been that route from the north. The route you mentioned looks longer but it is mainly interstate at least until San Antonio. San Antonio to Carrizozo is pretty stark country. Check with Dkeetch and see what he says. They live southwest of San Antonio and may have traveled some of those roads.

With the Texas group coming in on Monday just to get a head start and practice so we can keep up with the mountaineers, this rally could be over by Wednesday. Anything after that will be just a rest so we can make the trip home. If I were JohnD, I would try to get there by Tuesday at the latest to enable us to use him for a sacrifice to the Tiki gods. We could use the giant tie wraps to tie him to either the fire pole or the farting post. Wait, I remember something about the assless chaps. Let's just tie him to the fire pole.
On a serious note, I've followed this JohnD on the forum for some time. I'm ready to meet this guy up front and in person. I really believe this is going to be the Big Motha of rallies to date for me.

That is the perfect one day drive from here without pushing the limit.

Been out working on the Prowler . . . getting ready for the trip!

Dewinterized the plumbing and have the fresh water tank, pump and plumbing sitting with water and bleach right now.

Bada-boom, bada-bing! Folks, this is gonna be one monster of a rally for the high-country! We are excited and looking forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones.

We will have a fun packed time that, from the sound of things here, will get kickin' way before the rally even starts! A BREAKFAST EXTRAVAGANZA is in the works, lubrication in various forms will be poured (headache medication/hair of the dog will be available), palm trees swayin', people singin', and I'm sure a few lies and good stories will be told! Looking forward to it!

Well, Lowe's, Home Depot and Ace Hardware no longer carry them (anode rods) . . .

Then I remembered that when I checked out the new Big R store that opened by our house a few months back had an RV section, so I stopped in there and they had the Camco anode rod for $10.99 . . . so I picked one up!

Thanks for the offer, though! :cool:

I could use a pirate outfit for setting sail with the Capt.. However, I'll try to bring something for the pot luck to eat, not drink. I have a feeling the Mountain Region know how to have a rally. I like it starting on Thursday but would be better if it started Monday. See everyone there.

I'll have to bring you a grass skirt and a coconut bra so you'll really be set for the occasion. I'll also bring some Sailor Jerry's Rum so you can compare and let us know what you think. Looking forward to it - gonna be a HOOT!

C M Spiced Rum is very drinkable but his Private Stock is the smoothest stuff I've ever tried. I'll make you a believer. At 78 years old and 378 lbs, I don't wear costumes anymore. Normally, I just sit outside our BH in my speedo. That seems to be the most comfortable attire for Rum. I didn't say it was a pretty picture, just comfortable.
Can't wait. Got a lot to do to get ready. Have you ever driven 700 miles hauling a flock of Pink Flamingos? Be nice to get there on the 1st and let them loose so Debbie can begin to clean the trailer. I had little collars made for them to keep them from running off. Wait till you see DW walking them each morning letting them do their business. Our dog helps her herd them.
Well, enough BS for tonight. Raring to go. See everyone soon.

Googled up the weather in Alto. Snow on Saturday? You've got to be shi------me. Is it always windy there. And the temps? Going to have to bring my Artic Parka to cook breakfast Friday morning. Didn't realize the altitude but should be great campfire weather. Is there a fire station close by?lol
For the Saturday pot luck, I'll make Chili, but not enough the masses. Not bragging, but this is good stuff. Wait, that did sound like I was bragging.

Geez, thanks for bringing that to our attention Frank, 30's and 40's at night! I is going to be 92 here in Stephenville tomorrow. What a difference . Just as well, I look better in sweatpants than I do in Speedohttps://www.heartlandowners.org/images/smilies/tongue.png We are going to make Jell-O shots and Pudding shots. Guess we will need to double the batch. See everyone soon.

You're right about the sweatpants vs the Speedo. At 378 lbs., I stretch my speedo so tight(especially with a pack of cigs on one side and beer on the other) you can see right thru it.lol Again, not a pretty site.
Make sure to bring a jacket. Going to be cool at 3:00AM when we start the bacon.
Might even need a cattle trailer with a cover to haul the Flamingos in. Not worried about them at night. I'll just turn them out and let them wander around.

Rockin_Dollar_B

Your flamingos are liable to turn blue, LilGuy. You might want to get fur coats for 'em and don't forget nice hats to keep their noggins warm. You will definitely need your thermal speedos, folks. Mornings will be chilly, days will be nice and nights will be perfect for a campfire and snuggling at bedtime.

I'm just hoping I'm outta the dog house by rally time. That thing is not heated!!!! All I said when DW told me her mother was coming to visit was that I'd have to empty half of my closet so she would have a place to hang upside down to sleep. Sheesh! Some folks are just too sensitive...

I follow the Ruidoso news, and from what I can recall the area has been under drought conditions the past few years, and wildfires are a real danger. There's probably a good reason there are no fire rings.
