Additional Info:
------------------------------
The "can't miss" Rally event of the summer. Connie and I are proud to showcase what we think is one of the best hidden gems of Ohio -- the Lake Erie Shores and Islands.

PLEASE MAKE YOUR RESERVATIONS EARLY TO NOT GET SHUT OUT!

There will be someone at the park through the winter. When calling the park, make sure you mention you're with the Ohio Heartland Group.

Members that are not considered immediate members of your household are more than welcome. However, we would hope that you strongly consider a donation.

A tentative schedule is attached, let me provide some highlights below

Our Rally will begin on Wednesday, August 16th with our ice cream social at 4p. Feel free to arrive on Thursday or Friday if that's all your schedule will allow. Optional dinner out then a social campfire.
On Thursday, we will have a group rate (with a minimum of 20 people) of $12 round trip for the Miller Ferry (http://www.millerferry.com/put-in-bay/put-in-bay-schedule/) and on to Put-In-Bay (http://www.visitputinbay.org/) on South Bass Island. We will have golf carts reserved once we arrive on the island. Each cart is $12/hour or $75 all day for the 4 person cart or $85 all day for the 6 person cart. Connie and I will lead our own personal tour of the island which will end at Perry's Monument (https://www.nps.gov/pevi/index.htm). Following the tour, you will be free to eat (http://www.visitputinbay.org/dining.php), do some shopping (http://www.visitputinbay.org/shopping.php), have an adult beverage (http://www.visitputinbay.org/bars.php), see some of the many attractions (http://www.visitputinbay.org/attractions.php), listen to live entertainment (http://www.visitputinbay.org/entertainment.php), etc. The last ferry leaves the island at 7:00p (runs every half hour)
On Friday, you will want to experience the many, many attractions (http://www.shoresandislands.com/itinerary/Ohio-Attractions) of the area. That evening, we will have an optional dinne (http://www.monamiwinery.com/cms-assets/documents/249991-550719.2016-menu-redo-7.16.16.pdf)r tentatively scheduled at Mon Ami Winery (https://www.monamiwinery.com/) one of the many fine wineries in the area. For those of you with children who would rather not do the winery, or for the children at heart, we will be a short drive away from Cedar Point (https://www.cedarpoint.com/), the Roller Coaster Capital of the World.
On Saturday, we'll have a pancake breakfast, then more time for you to explore the many, many attractions (http://www.shoresandislands.com/itinerary/Ohio-Attractions) of the area. To conclude, we are going to have a Lake Erie Perch Fry at the park. Please don't call it a "fish fry". It's Lake Erie Perch. There's a difference.

We hope you'll make time in your summer schedule to visit one of the best places in the state of Ohio.

Today is February 1st, which means this is the last month that the Campground will hold our sites without opening them up for their guests. Starting March 1st, you can still try and get in to the campground, but where and if could be an issue.

Hope if you're considering our Rally, you'll make your deposit this month.

They also mentioned they got the last Full Hook Up site.

As promised, this park will fill up now that sites have gone back into the regular inventory. I won't fill up the forum with daily posts about availability, but if you're thinking of coming, you should make your reservation soon.

Okay, Lynette and I will be planning to go to African safari wildlife park. It is a park that you can drive through and the animals will come up to your car. We were hand feeding zebra and giraffes when we went to one in Texas. We really want to take Greyson. Below is the website. If enough people want to go it cuts the price almost in half in we have 10 people.

Shawn, The President is close, but math wasn't his strongest suit. He's in Europe now, and I think 14 rigs x 2 equals 24 there, but here in Ohio it's 28 (plus your little guy).

Very kind of you to offer to bring your smoker. My traveling one died a horrible, rusty death over the winter. I have one for here at our site (and one in Texas) that unfortunately can't travel.

Also, it worked out really well last year to have some EZ up canopies so if you have one, please bring it. I'll tolerate U of Tennessee, but anything U of M will have to be repaired after the rally.

Here’s the information for Thursday’s optional trip to Put-In-Bay.

First, the Ferry over. We will be shooting for the 9:00a Miller Ferry (http://www.millerferry.com/), which is right down the street from our park. To get the group rate of $12 per person ($24 per couple) round trip, it all must be paid at once with one payment device, either prepaid or the morning of the 17th.

Next, the Golf Carts. Once we leave the ferry, we’ll use E’s Put In Bay Golf Carts (https://www.esputinbaygolfcarts.com/) which are located on the south part of the island where the ferry disembarks.

Again, to make reservations, they must be prepaid in full.

Based on your responses, we have the following “rosters” of carts:

1a Bob & Connie (simsfmly)
1b Keith & Kim (Kbvols)
1c Mike & Justina (Mike-n-Justina)

2a Tom & Millie (ncc1701e)
2b Jim & Patti (Buckeye)

3a Dan & Karen (Herbiesrig)
3b Pam & Lyle (PALTeam)

4a Don & cindy (DCG1986)
4b Sniper & Sweet P (Sniper)

5a Harold & Mollie (Harold_On)
5b Jon & Patti (jnbhobe)
5c John & Melinda (JJC)

Including the $5 off with the code Save5, a 4 man cart is $37.50 per couple and a 6 man cart is $28.34 per couple

That leaves us bunches of options.

One way would be to mail me a check for the amounts above: $24/couple for the ferry and either $37.50/couple or $28.34/couple for the cart. I would have to receive it by the end of the month (July 31st). I’ll deposit it into the Ohio HOC account and prepay everything. Once I have everyone’s $$ for their cart, we’ll make that reservation. Once we have everyone’s ferry $$, we’ll make that reservation.

I’m purposely not giving you the address to send you the check because I’d like some dialogue on this. I have other ideas, but this would be the easiest.

1aBob & Connie (simsfmly)
1bKeith & Kim (Kbvols)
1cMike & Justina (Mike-n-Justina)

2aTom & Millie (ncc1701e)
2bJim & Patti (Buckeye)

3aDan & Karen (Herbiesrig)
3bPam & Lyle (PALTeam)

4aDon & cindy (DCG1986)
4bSniper & Sweet P (Sniper)

5aHarold & Mollie (Harold_On)
5bJon & Patti (jnbhobe)
5cJohn & Melinda (JJC)

Please let me know your thoughts by replying to this post, do not PM me. We’ll wrap this dialogue up by Sunday night.

We're fine taking the easy path so sending a check is fine. We appreciate all the effort arranging this.

Make it out to me as the account where the money is held is in my name, not the club's.

Regrettably got word today that Tom & Millie (ncc1701e) (https://heartlandowners.org/member.php/10336-ncc1701e) won't be attending. Millie's health isn't going to allow travel.

Certainly understand the feeling, as many of you know, my wife has health problems also. It's a fine line between whether you make plans and cancel or wait until the last second when you know you can go.

Hope you'll reach out and offer them continued thoughts.

Buckeye ( aka Jim & Patti Murphy) will not be attending the Ohio Rally next month. It has been a long month for the Murphy's. Our loving seven year old dog, Maggie, collapsed and died suddenly the day before Father's Day. One moment she was racing around the back yard, the next she lie dead at the base of a tree. No prior symptoms, we assume that she had a massive heart attack. After seven weeks of my wife and I telling ourselves that we never wanted to experience that hurt again, we drove yesterday to Indiana to purchase an adult Standard Schnauzer. It will take some time for her to get used to living in a home after a year and a half with a breeder. For that reason we have decided to cancel our plans for the rally. A tremendous amount of work has been done by simsfmly so I know it will be a success. Hopefully we will attend a future Ohio Rally. Jim & Patti Murphy

Starting to get serious, i.e., the budget and the grocery list are starting to get finalized.

I've updated the ever changing schedule on the first post. Please remember, at the bottom of the sheet is always the "last modified" date. The latest one supercedes all previous.

A couple of changes/updates.

Thursday: we're going to plan on leaving the park around 8:30a and catch the 9:00a Ferry for those of you going to Put In Bay.
Friday: There will be no breakfast served by the club, just can't fit anything else in the budget. Also, the participation level has dropped to the point where they can't offer us the group tour/tasting and dinner option. We will go out to dinner that night. They don't take reservations at Mon Ami, but here's the menu (https://www.monamiwinery.com/cms-assets/documents/264341-936879.food-menu-2017.pdf). If you'd like to join us, that's great. If not, and you'd like to go somewhere else, let me know or we can all decide at the park. It's sounding like EVERYONE is flexible which I appreciate, but 20 people saying "I don't care" provides it's own problems.
Saturday: What the club will be providing for breakfast and dinner is in the schedule (which is attached to the first post). Perch and fries are the basic menu. We will welcome any carry in dishes that would go with that, and I know Mark Comer, along with others, would appreciate any and all desserts.

We will be having a 50/50 raffle that Mike and Justina will be spear heading.

I couldn't come up with anything for the Heartlanders give back in this area, so we won't be having any donations in that regards.

I think that's it for now. Looking forward to seeing everyone this coming week.

Hello to all, Hope everyone is enjoying the rally in Port Clinton. Although family circumstances prevented us from making the rally this year, we still may try to make it to Lake Erie later in the fall. What are your impressions of Cedarlane RV park? Any RV. sites better than others and how are the facilities? I believe the park shuts down in mid October. Thanks in advance for any and all responses. Enjoy the fish fry tomorrow.

For those of you who would like the perch pancake batter recipe:

For each pound (about 6 butterflies or 12 singles) of perch

1 cup flour
1 tsp of garlic salt
2 cups pancake mix (dry)
1 egg
2 tbs melted butter
12 oz of milk (this was a substitute. I usually use a can of room temp beer, but I didn't think the HOC poobahs would let me write off beer on the expense report).

Note: This is my usually pan fry recipe. Obviously, with the bulk we did, we dropped them into hot oil.

Combine the pancake mix, egg, melted butter, and milk. Beat till well mixed. Refrigerate the batter for at least 30 minutes. If your filets are already in a cooler, just put it in a gallon bag and add it to the cooler.

Wash fillets with cold water. Dry the filets with paper towels.

Put the flour, garlic salt in a plastic bag and mix well. Add the perch filets to the plastic bag and shake to coat the filets with seasoned flour.

In a large frying pan, canola oil, 1/4 inch deep, to about 375 degrees. (If you're going to deep fry, we found 325 to be a better temp).

Take the floured filets and dip one by one, into the batter to coat, and carefully place the filet into the hot oil.

Fry filets till golden brown on both sides.
