I learned this the hard way after traveling on a stretch of pretty rough roads in New Mexico and Colorado when we found one of the globes from the pendant lights over the kitchen island in many pieces on the island and floor. Upon checking, the globe is only held in place by a plastic ring that is screwed onto the light socket above the bulb. The plastic ring was later found on the floor.
The point of this little story is that if you have the type of lights in the photo or similar ones, then you should periodically check the plastic ring in each globe to make sure it is tight.
I, frankly, in thirty thousand miles had never checked mine and paid the price (about twenty bucks for a replacement from Heartland). I now check them before every trip.
