Shore Power / Cord Length?

Howdy, since we have not had the Horn out for a while now, and probably will not why it is still hot. I dropped the hook with the rig aways from the house to get a little more room, with 2 acres there was lots of room but not very close to the power supply.
I did mention it was hot, that being said I had a 100' of cables out to keep the batteries up. The combo I had was 1/25' 50amp, 2/25' 30amp with a pigtail on the end with a 16ga length into my 30amp box.
Obviously with temps of 100+ pulling a load the 16ga fried at both ends, melted the pigtail and popped the breaker when sweetie flipped on the AC!
After we discussed the matter, she remembered our conversation about not being able to use the AC.
I saw the error of my ways and headed out to CW. I picked up another 25' 30amp cord and an official 30amp 3 prong box, which I should have put in when I pulled the #8's for the dedicated circuit in the first place!
The cable length only drops the current by about 5 volts, much to my surprise.
Now momma is happy and I am can sleep in the house again!
