Easy Fix of White 12 volt Rocker Switches

I had 2 - 12 volt lights go out the same day recently, one over the inside door area, one above the outside steps. I was thinking that if 2 went out, it was likely some hot or grounding wiring problem. Well, I learned that coincidences DO happen. The over the step light (Porch light) was just a burned out incandescent bulb. I replaced that with a spare LED lamp I had on hand. The inside light problem was inside the switch, mounted on the lower inside riser step. A test light confirmed this. I sprayed the open edges of the plastic rocker actuator with Caig Cramolyn DeOxIt D5 contact restorer spray, to get the spray inside the switch to the electrical contacts, worked the switch 10 times, and the switch immediately started working again.

I have noted frequent postings here about the rocker switches heating up or not working. A quick spray with DeOxIt might be an easy, low cost, fix.

The stuff is available at Amazon, or at better electronics parts stores.
