Solar design for 2018 Bighorn 3270RS

Hey all-

We're starting to think about the long term solar design for our 3270RS. One of the design constraints will be the roof surface area and the maximum number of panels that can go up top.

Knowing this will help set the battery, inverter, and controller size.

Has anyone done solar up top? How many panels roughly max? 160s or 100s?

Better yet does anyone have a roof layout schematic with measurements ?

Thanks in advance, brad

The in-depth reading on solar I've done here suggests to calculate your daily wattage requirements, then base all equipment around that figure properly....rather than filling the rooftop full of panels and then working rest of equipment around them.

I agree with that completely. Part of the equation for us is we are in zone 6, so the recovery rate based on the number of panels is much higher than the rest of the US. We also love going out to the coast in the middle of the winter when the sunrise is at 8 and set at 4. The other thing is the solar controller need to be sized for not the actual panel W but the potential. We will probably start small with a couple panels until we go full time and then suppliment with more later.
