slides keep stopping when bringing in or out

Our slides on our 2015 3160 EL do not operate correctly on the hydraulics when setting at campsite for the weekend. When we try to put in the two large slides, they continually stop when putting them in. We are not sure if it means anything, but the charger reading in the camper goes down from 13.1 to around 12.8. We have to let it sit and recharge back up to above 13 again and then start the slide moving in again. Each slide may stop 3 to 4 times. We are not sure if it could be the converter or maybe the hydraulic pump. We also have the same issue putting slides out unless we travel about 150 miles. it seems like the slides do not stop when putting them out after traveling a longer distance. Does anyone else have the same issues or answers on why the slides continually keep stopping.?

Hi nussie,

Welcome to the Heartland Owners Forum.

Power to the hydraulic pump goes from the battery through a 12V DC mini-circuit breaker on a row of breakers near the battery. The breakers are typically covered by red rubber boots. The hydraulic motor breaker is an auto-reset, so if it trips, the motor will stop, but after 5-15 seconds it'll reset and the hydraulics will run again.

The breaker will trip if it's weak, or if battery voltage is low (probably below 12.6V), connections are dirty or loose, or if there's a bind in the mechanical parts.

The most common issue is that the breaker is weak. It's an inexpensive part, usually less than $10 and takes maybe 10 minutes to change out. You just need one with the same form factor so it fits on the buss bar. It's a 50 amp 12-24V DC auto-reset circuit breaker that you may be able to get at an RV dealership, boating parts store, or some auto parts stores.

I've attached some pictures. There are usually 2 thick wires going to the output side of the breakers (not the side with the copper connecting strip). One goes to the Power Converter and the other to the hydraulics pump motor. Your buss bar may be arranged differently from the pictures.

X2 on weak breaker. Our old coach did the exact same thing: start/stop. Bought 2 new breakers from NAPA because I couldn't find/get right amp ones from RV store. Slides worked like new again.

X3 on weak breaker. Could it also be compounded by a weak battery/batteries from the dealer to begin with? Our original batteries did not last long if off shore power, even from day 1 purchased in January. By December, we were experiencing breaker trips when trying to raise the LevelUp legs or pull slides in. This spring we replaced the breaker and the batteries and have not had any more issues.
