Howdy, and Happy New Year!
Would anyone object to rescheduling this rally to 27-30September 2018? The place would remain the same, Elkhart Campground.
Thanks!

Lyle we MAY be able to make it if the rally were rescheduled to these dates (27 - 30 Sept). We have next to ZERO chance of making it on the October dates.

Looking forward to you seeing both. :)

Well, folks, we’re going to stick with the October 4-7 dates. We were leaning towards the September dates, then were reminded that is a Notre Dame home football game, which is pretty much kryptonite to other events, in terms of traffic, restaurants, etc.

ND is playing Stanford, a rivalry that goes back to 1925 - the game featuring Knute Rockne and Pop Warner that inspired “Win one for the Gipper!”

Thanks to everyone who responded and sincere apologies to those who can’t make the October date. Hope to see you all sooner or later!

P.S. If you want to go to the ND vs Stanford game, tickets are in the $300s.

I may put this rally on my list as I am coming to Michigan from Yuma, AZ for my 40th. class reunion the following weekend.

I'm working out the details of my trip so I'll let you know!

I have a lot of relatives in the Elkhart and Goshen areas, so this will give me a chance to visit if I can work that in.

Howdy, all.

Jim Biletti has offered to set up a factory tour on Friday of our rally. How many would be interested? And if you are, which product line do you want to see? Pam and I are 'in' for a tour, we've been to the toy hauler line a couple of times, would like to see one or more of the others.

Also, Michelle and Roger Savoie (mostly Michelle as she works at ND, but Roger's definitely in a supportive role) are working on a Saturday tour of Notre Dame's Basilica of the of the Sacred Heart ("spectacular and the gem of the campus", according to Michelle) as well as the Grotto. Michelle says the Library, basilica, the Grotto, the lakes, the golden dome and the original log chapel are in the same general vicinity.
Who's in for that? Pam and I definitely are!

By the way, you don't have to be a Catholic or ND fan to appreciate this tour. All religions and college allegiances are welcomed!

We're also looking at a Saturday lunch at Tippecanoe Place, which was originally the Studebaker Mansion, an historic landmark and a "way, really cool place", according to Pam. Sound like a plan to you?

So, to repeat, 3 questions here:
1. Are you in for a factory tour on Friday? If so, which line would you like to see?
2. Are you in for a Saturday tour of Notre Dame's Basilica, Grotto and possibly other structure nearby?
https://campusministry.nd.edu/about/
3. Would you like to do lunch at Tippecanoe Place on Saturday, probably before the ND tour?
http://www.tippe.com/

Bonus question: Who remembers "Tippecanoe and Tyler too!" and what does it mean?

Safe travels!

I will be coming alone, wife's on a girls weekend, so rather than sit home alone, I will do something fun.

Hockster

Hey great Garry, since you will be there alone, can we hire you as our "butler" for the rally time????

- - - Updated - - -

Torn between attending (work permitting) this rally, or the Amana, Iowa rally which is scheduled for the same dates.......... Wondering why there are two rallies for the same dates? The Amana rally is during Oktoberfest which obviously can not be moved to another date. Both venues are great, but can only be in one place at one time..............................

Hello All. We plan on arriving on Oct-2 and departing on Oct-7.
Called the Elkhart Campground (574-264-2914) and all they asked for was our name.

Yes for the factory tour.
Yes for the lunch.
Yes for the ND tour.

We thought hard and long about rescheduling our rally after hearing about the Iowa rally and their 'hard date'. But if we moved to the previous weekend, it would have conflicted with a Notre Dame home football game, and that is kryptonite to any other events, as well as making it impossible to get campground reservations. So, with Regional approval, we stayed with the original date. We'll definitely watch out for this in future rallies!

Howdy, folks! October and the Indiana Rally are rapidly approaching. Pam and I are really looking forward to getting together with y'all!

Generally speaking, here's what's going on:

Thursday: simple breakfast; golf outing; lunch on your own; afternoon on your own (or possible Cornhole tourney); Dinner meet and greet, PALTeam chili; tentative beer tasting by United Beverage and LoveWay www.lovewayinc.org presentation. LoveWay is our Heartland Gives Back choice.
Friday: big breakfast; Dicor presentation; lunch on your own; afternoon factory tour; dinner TBD (see questions below).
Saturday: ND tour, leave campground at 8:15; lunch at Tippecanoe Place; potluck dinner, raffle, etc.
Sunday: simple breakfast stuff; dinner TBD for those not leaving Sunday.

Before I finalize the schedule, I need to know a few things, please:

For the Friday evening meal, would you rather hang out at the campground (possible menu - lasagna) or go to Das Dutchman Essenhaus? www.essenhaus.com
Do you plan to go on the Notre Dame tour? We'll leave the campground no later than 8:15 am on Saturday, plan on a 2 1/2 hour tour. (Saturday morning was the only time we could get into the Basilica.)
Do you plan on going to Tippecanoe Place (the former Studebaker mansion) for lunch on Saturday? Plan on 12:00 noon. We'll be on the 'Sun Porch' (look under the 'Weddings and Events" tab at www.tippe.com). Figure on about $10 for salads and/or $10 for sandwiches; once we get a good count of who's going, we'll settle on some menu choices (due to the possible size of the group, we're limited to four choices of soup/salad, and four choices of sandwiches. No separate checks.
Cornhole tourney's seem to be popular; who is interested? Our facility has plenty of room, indoors, in case of inclement weather. Probably Thursday afternoon.

Feel free to do either the Notre Dame tour or Tippecanoe place, or both.

Thanks much for your response. Oh yeah, regarding the Saturday lunch at Tippecanoe Place, we'll need a firm count by the 28th of September.

All sounds good to us with the exception of golf, so put our names on the lists. Fred would like to play cornhole (but not me, Diane) so he would need a partner. Whatever you decide on Friday night is ok with us.

The forecasted high for tomorrow is 62 or 63, depending on who you listen to, so we'll plan on having the cornhole tourney inside the Rec Hall. All are welcome, participants and spectators. We can gather at 2:00 and get sorted out, then get started when the golfers return.

We'll get the chili warmed up and eat as soon as the tourney winds up.

Just in case anyone is interested, I will have for sale a new RV lock, right hand, that I can not use. I got it at a Heartland rally for my brother in law’s camper, but it didn’t fit his older door style.
Rvlock.com has it retailing for $235.00
i can sell it to you for 125.00 if interested.
we will be arriving sometime tomorrow afternoon.
thanks
jim and Claudia

Thanks everyone for all your kind comments, couldn't have a great rally without y'all!!

Thanks, too, for your wonderful generosity for our Heartland Gives Back initiative. Pam went to LoveWay this morning - we raised $1,001 for them!

Sorry 'bout the rain, it's been a wet year all around.

Thanks again and again and again for your participation, the food and your generosity!!!

Welcome to our hometown! We haven't been through WnW for awhile, is it going downhill? If you want a unique place for a treat, drive to downtown Columbus and check out Zaharako's - an old-time ice cream parlor with lots of neat history!

actually Woods n Water seems pretty nice. It’s rustic. Interestingly enough no pull through sure are full service. We’re here just for the night wish I’d known about the icee cream parlor last night.

i just extended our next stop in Franklin KY until at least Saturday. We’ll be waiting to see what the weather does as we’re heading to FL.

Thanks again to you and Michelle, everyone really enjoyed the tour!

Thank You Pam and Lyle for a great rally. You both along with your RAT team do a great job. We enjoyed the rally.. We took our rig to Affinity Sunday to have our awning put on Monday, but they had to get some more parts from Heartland. We stayed over another night and Sunday went to KOUTS, to visit friends and we went out for dinner at INDUSTRIAL REVELUTION for dinner in Valpo. What an awesome place.
BTW our new awning looks great.
Thanks again for a great rally

It was great to see you guys and all at the rally. We are loving them. Next summer it will be fun to see how many we can fit in our plans.

A BIG batch of chili just keeps on giving ;-)

We're in Wisconsin, going to see the House on the Rock. Chilly here, too, glad we got the cold package!

Thanks also to the PAL team for a great rally we almost didn't make, but a bigger thanks to that terrible stretch of 31 North in Michigan on the way home that broke my rear spring hanger!!!!! Just discovered while winterizing. Thankfully I own a weld machine. Looks like I already have one spring project before the National rally. Any ideas on how to disassemble/fix?

Jim,

We had an almost identical thing happen to us after the Michigan Rally. I welded it on myself too.
