Water Heater Help

We are new to this forum as we just purchased a 2006 Landmark 5th Wheel. In order for us to get hot water, we must have both of the switches turned on (gas and electric). Are we doing something wrong? Because we bought this unit used, we did not get very much literature to refer to. Any suggestions or comments would be very appreciated. Thanks!

My "guess" is that your electric heating element is blown and needs to be replaced. Test this by leaving the electric element off and run only the gas portion. If the water gets as hot as it ever has gotten for you, have the electric element checked/replaced.

Also check the little black switch inside the exterior cover of the water heater to ensure it is ON. If it is not ON, the power switch inside the coach will not turn the element on.

Just bought a 2011 Caliber. Literature that came with the trailer did not explain how to heat the water electrically. Our manual said exactly the same thing as you experienced, both switches need be turned on, & then the water was heated only with gas.
Hint, on our unit, we found a small switch, with a locking pin in it, hidden in the water heater compartment. I assume this will let us heat the water electrically.

Does the red light switch light up when you turn it on?? If not it s a power issue. Check the breaker in the breaker panel to see if it is tripped or off.
