Quick connect?

Is the quick connect a standard connector for propane? I am getting ready to get a grill (probably the Coleman Roadtrip X-cursion) and want to make sure I get the line and connector before our first trip next week.

I think most Coleman grills like this one use the small propane bottles. Those are high pressure and the grill has a regulator.

The trailer quick-connect is after the regulator and provides a low pressure hookup.

I think a few people have figured out how to make the connection to the grill without using the Coleman regulator. Perhaps one will chime in.

I bought the Coleman Roadtrip grill and made the modification to use it with the low pressure quick connect on my Wilderness trailer. Had to remove the grill’s regulator (the silver piece) from it’s attached brass connection (needed some force to break the old seal). Then installed that brass piece into a reducing street elbow, and then put a quick connect fitting on the other end of the elbow. Remember to use gas/tfe tape (the yellow kind) for a leak-proof seal on all threads. Tested for leaks, and presto, it worked!

In the past I have used the adapter shown in this post

https://heartlandowners.org/showthread.php/11365-And-so-it-begins?p=426735&viewfull=1#post426735

I used 12' propane hoses to the grill using the typical small bottle adapter.

On my current Weber I got tired of replacing the regulator so I removed it, added the necessary adapters and now use a hose off the trailer quick connect.

When you get the quick connects you have to make sure they are for propane and not air lines. The propane parts, besides being brass either have have a small tab to push the plunger in the coupling or at made to push the plunger.

These are some of the parts I used. I did not use all of these on my one grill, there are several RV propane projects using these parts.

Thanks for the post on the fact that the quick connect is "low pressure", never gave it a thought, bought a hose to connect my CharBroil table top to the RV propane rather than use the little bottles, never tried and glad that I did not have the steak all seasoned and ready when I realized this would not work. The grill I use has the temp control/on-off built into the regulator so I don't see how I could bypass that and still have temperature control...

Thanks for all the information! I do have a follow up question.

If I remove the regulator for my Coleman Road Trip LXE to make these modifications will it work with a standard propane tank? Or would I have to reattach the regulator?
