He gang,

If you are using a Motosat dish with a Nomad II dish controller (regardless of service provider eg. DirectTV, Dish Network...), you need to update the software in your controller

Dave (dtvista) and Larry (Larryheadunter) worked with Motosat to figure out how to do the update, then they updated at least 3 Nomad II controllers here at the rally in Las Vegas.

Here is a link to the downloads page on the Motosat site: http://www.motosat.com/downloads/tv/index.asp

Later, Dave will chime in with "lessons learned" on doing the update.

Software update for your MotoSAT Nomad Controller.

Here are a couple of pitfalls Larry and I came across while doing the Update.

Doing the update yourself:
  • Download the update from MotoSAT. http://www.motosat.com/downloads/ Nomad 2 v33.8 Software
  • All directions (with Pictures) are in your manual. Every step is covered.
  • You will need a laptop that allows the application Hyperterminal. (Windows Vista does not use Hyperterminal) Will need to use Windows 2000, XP or a Mac.
  • ** You must use the cables and adapters described in the instructions.
    • MotoSAT Cable can be order directly from Support- $22
    • 9 Pin Serial Adapter from Radio Shack- $?
OR……

You can order a plug-in Module from Tech Support. You pay shipping and it’s free when you return the module to MotoSAT.

POSSIBLE ISSUES

After the download was completed, we received an error message. After much discussion with Tech Support, they decided that it was an issue with the last line of the download and should not cause an issue.

THE SET UP

Follow the directions in the manual for the “FIRST TIME SETUP”. The first part has you go into Program Mode. Each Nomad 2 needs to be set up for the dish that is used. For example, I use Dish Network, and when the set up is complete I should only be showing the Stow light. Larry has Direct and his set up ends with both the Find and Slow Lights showing.

Step two will be to do a test dish…Be patience. Go to the final step when the Stow light stops flashing

The final step will be to select the FIND button. Don’t be surprised if this takes awhile. Larry’s took 10 minutes, while mind took almost 40 minutes.

Good luck..If you need help MotoSAT Tech Support was very helpful.

33.8 Update module for the Motosat Nomad 2/3

After receiving the update module and following the instructions, the 33.8 update was completed in exactly five minutes as the instructions had indicated. This was accomplished about three weeks ago and no problems have surfaced.
