Question, Refer Long term Storage

I have not picked up our new Bighorn yet, but do any of you have any tips on how to keep the mold down on a residential refrigerator when the doors cannot be opened because of the doors being blocked by the kitchen island when the glides are pulled in. We have to store our RV in a covered RV storage building so the glides have to be pulled in. In our last RV, we could just open the doors on the freezer and refer when in storage so that moisture would not accumulate. Any thoughts? Thank you. Also, is the right way to ask a question on this forum?

You don't have to open the doors very far to allow air circulation. Even a couple of inches will probably do the trick. You just need something to hold the doors open - a towel over the top of the door, a piece of foam board cut to fit inside and keep the door from closing... etc.

Thank you. We appreciate the advice. We pick up our bighorn 3720 RS tomorrow and will look to see if we can open the freezer door a little bit.

You should also get a couple plastic tabs that are for this purpose with your fridge. Be sure to look for them when you pick up your rig and ask if they are not found.

If the fridge is powered down and allowed to warm to air temperature then thoroughly cleaned and allowed to dry you should have very little problem with mold when storing with the doors closed!

Thank you all for the comments. When we picked up our coach we cannot open the freezer door with the glide fully retracted. In fact, we pointed out that there is a significant rub on the door where the freezer door rubs against the island. We are going to put this advice to work when we return home and make sure that the freezer is wiped as dry as we can get it and also try putting some charcoal in a sock and put it in the freezer to help absorb any moisture that might remain. It is nice to know that so many of you are here to help. Now if I can just figure out how to NOT overload the coach. That first trip to the truck scales will probably be a shocker!

We just turn it off, place a towel on the bottom and leave it propped open with the plastic tabs for a day or so. Then wipe it dry and leave it propped open over the winter. You don’t want to leave the freezer or fridge closed up in storage.
