One possible solution to trailer dragging

About year and a half ago we purchased a Hensley Trailer Saver 5th wheel hitch with remote control kit. This hitch uses inflatable air bags and shock absorbers to prevent the truck from bouncing the trailer and vice versa. One fringe benefit of this is that you can raise and lower the hitch pin height by adjusting the air pressure in the airbags. If the truck and trailer are level with each other side to side you can drop the pin to gain rear bumper clearance on the trailer, or if you're manuvering at an angle you can raise the pin to reduce interference between the side of the truck bed and trailer overhang. The total travel is around 4" to 5", so its not a mile of adjustment but sometimes that's all you need. The remote control kit includes a small 12 volt compressor in the hitch and a bleed tube so you can adjust the air pressure without an external source of compressed air.
