Brake adjustment

We are wanting to check and see how often the brakes should be adjusted on our 09 BH 3400RE. It currently has around 6000 miles and in June we will be making a trip from Alaska to Missouri. Thanks for your help.

I do mine once a season when I pack the bearrings. Better safe than sorry. Paul

Check you owners manual for the factory recommendations. Beyond that, be sure they are properly adjusted before going on any trip especially one where you are going to travel in the mountains. Many times dealers either forget or do not adjust the brakes prior to delivery. If you do not make sure it will sure be hard on the TV brakes.

I would recommend every 5000/7000 miles. It is very important to pull the wheels and brake drums periodically to inspect for grease seeping through inner-wheel seal onto the brake lining. If this occurs the brakes will not work properly. I replaced two seals at 18k miles and complete brakes/seals at 24k. The brake linings were worn only 1/16" but coated with grease and would not stop RV and TV when applying manual braking at 5 mph.
