Identifying inputs to the power relay switch

I am about to install my Progressive EMS and want to put it in line before the power switch on the shore power side. How can I tell which lead is the shore power and which is the generator power without cutting into the sheath and probing the wires with a meter. Is it installed a specific way with shore power on the right and gen on the left or vise-versa?

Alan, why don't you install your EMS right before the breaker panel. You will be protected on both sources. You can purchase a "sniffer" for a few bucks that will identify a hot wire. That will help you find the shore power. Be sure to unplug your shore power before starting your installation.
Peace

I have read that the EMS will show an open ground error when using the gen-set. I believe that Cummins/Onan makes a good product and I am not worried about bad power coming form it, and 99.9% of the time we are connected to shore power.
