Military Shows

My 2 youngest sons are absolutely thrilled by anything military. Does anyone know if any of the military bases in the mid-atlantic area have any type of shows we could attend that might include tanks. I have heard of military excercises and displays, but can't find any information on them.

Only ones that I'm familiar with are Naval Air Stations and they do air shows from time to time but I would think you will need to check with the local Chamber of Commerce for schedules. The main one I know of Mid Atlantic would be NAS Oceana just outside of Norfolk, VA. Try checking the web site www.military.com and see if there might be anything there for you to reference.

Langley AFB is having a "Wings Over..." this weekend or the next. The Thunderbirds are going to fly.

The annual DoD Open House at Andrews AFB should be coming up very soon. It is normally around the 2d weekend in May. That would make it May 9 and 10 this year. Either the Thunderbirds or the Blue Angels perform each year and there are tons of aircraft and military equipment on display. My kids loved it when they were young.

In Quantico, VA. there is the Marine Corps Musuem. This is only about 2 years old now and is awesome. Also if you are in the Washington D.C. area you might want to check out Marine Corps HQ at what is known as 8th and I. You can possibly get to see the Silent Drill team and the Marine Corps Band. Both worth seeing. Info should be available on the internet. You can catch videos of their performances on the net but live is great. I bet they have a summer schedule for vacationers.
If I remember there is an Army Musuem in Aberdeen, MD. and I think it is for armor/tanks.
Do a search on the internet for "Wings Over". I believe that is a traveling airshow as mentioned by one of the other members. I know it is here in Houston in late summer.
Try a search on the " Confederate Airforce" and see if there are any chapters in the area you are going to be in. This group restores WWII aircraft usually to flying condition. My local branch in Galveston,TX actually offers B-17 rides. ( check out the Lonestar Flight Musuem on the internet) A bit pricey though.

There is a GREAT Air Force museum at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. There is a LARGE display of various Air Force planes and best of all it is FREE.
