Another late Christmas present

Just sealed the deal on this 2017 F-350. I have always owned Ram trucks, but I will say this truck has a spectacular ride! Sorry for the rinky-dink pics, didn't want to deal with Photobucket today.

Thanks fellas, now I need to decide if I’m going to use by B&W Companion hitch or I purchased an Anderson’s hitch this fall. Didn’t notice too big a difference with my last truck, but this new one will didn’t come with the 5th wheel prep so I’m trying to decide what to go with. Thoughts with this heavy a trailer?

We had issues with an Andersen Ultimate aluminum hitch pulling our Cyclone. The hitch guy checking it out said he has never seen problems with the steel Andersen hitch, but had seen issues with the aluminum. We ended up replacing the Andersen Ultimate with a Reese Elite and like the way it pulls. A lot heavier to take in and out but seems a lot more stable. A friend has great things to say about the B&W too.

My 2011 F350 did not come with the 5th prep either. I ended up buying the ford puck system from Anderson and running the elite series hitch for my cyclone. I love the way it pulls and hooks up. I do want to switch out to a flex air or cushioned hitch to stop some of the chucking but she still pulls nice otherwise. It took my son and I an afternoon to install the system. Hardest part was using a heavy duty electric drill and hole saw the cut through the bed but you have aluminum so it should be like butter lol.

I converted mine to a gooseneck and don’t have to worry about taking anything in and out. Pulled my 4200 on many long trips.

Take a look at the Hensley 5th wheel hitches. I have the BD3 - very smooth ride. In my case I had the benefit of buying one hitch knowing that I was likely to go through several trailers.

I would be curious to know as well. The Anderson hitch I purchased is the older steel model and it seems pretty beefy, but it still doesn’t look as strong as the B&W, but they say it is so...

Agreed on the drilling part! I put cab lights and added a hitch to my previous truck so I think I have the stones to do this one; besides the new Superduties come with a dimple in the bed so you know right where to drill. No measuring. Someone at Ford is a thinker.

Our aluminum Andersen Ultimate hitch actually failed. While pulling through a parking lot making a slow right turn, the right rear strut collapsed. Thankfully not much damage to the truck other than a slight dent in the side of the bed which we've already had repaired, but the hitch is a total loss. We were traveling through Albuquerque at the time and luckily the breakdown was only a couple miles from a Camping World. I know a lot of people aren't thrilled with Camping World, but they were great. Sent a truck to move our trailer to a nearby campground, and got us fixed up with a new hitch and back on the road the next morning. Andersen Hitch has also been very responsive and is covering all our costs. Their rep said this is only the 2nd of about 40,000 aluminum hitches that they are aware of failure. The guy at Camping World said he has seen 2 or 3 failures of the aluminum Andersen's, but no problems with the steel versions. I'm suspicious it just couldn't handle the weight of a Cyclone 4005, but then again could be we just got a flawed unit.

Wow!! Lucky you were going slow and nice to see Anderson step up. Gives me something to think about that’s for sure.
