2018 Landmark Newport Half-Bath Toilet

Greetings fellow Landmark Newport owners (and others with a Heartland Half-Bath option). In February of 2018 we took delivery of a factory ordered Newport, delivered to a dealership in Texas. On the day that we arrived to initially inspect the unit and do a walk through with the dealer, we noticed among other issues, that the toilet in the downstairs half-bath was placed too close to the inside wall. This placement keeps the toilet lid from opening all the way and consequently the lid and seat will not stay up. I will not go into detail about how uncomfortable this can be, just use your own imagination

To date, we have not been able to find a suitable fix for this on any of the appropriate forums. We have contacted the dealer and there is apparently no direction from the factory on how to solve this issue.

I am posting here to ask a couple of questions: (1) Do you have a Heartland product with the same issue? and if so (2) Are you aware of a fix for this problem?

Michael,

Welcome to the Heartland Owners Forum.

I recall posts about the toilet in the 1/2 bath being different from the toilet in the main bathroom, precisely because of space/fitment limitations.

Could you take a picture of the label on the base of the toilet to identify the manufacturer/model #. Perhaps the wrong toilet is being installed. In that case the fix would be very simple - get the right toilet from Heartland.

Hello ,

We are looking at purchasing a Newport. I am a big guy and sat on the toilet in a slightly used 2018. I noticed it was tight. I will have to check this out further. the toilet in the Half Bath was a Dometic 300 I belive with a sprayer and the main bath was a Atwood short one.

This is what is used in sticks and bricks. I am not sure how much room there is between the tank and floor. This might help.

The dealership attempted to fix the issue by loosening the flange bolts and turning the seat as far clockwise and they could. This did not fix the problem and the lid still hits the wall and doesn't stay open. The end result actually caused an accident when someone sat down and the whole toilet fell off the flange and ended up throwing the user and the toilet on the floor. Again, just use your imagination.

On the same day that we inspected our new unit, there were two other buyers on the lot inspecting their own newly purchased LM Newports. Oddly enough, ALL THREE OF US discussed the same exact issue of the badly placed toilet. We spoke with the dealer about this and all agreed it was a manufacturing issue that should be addressed.

To date, we have not been able to find a suitable fix for this on any of the appropriate forums. We have contacted the dealer and there is apparently no direction from the factory on how to solve this issue.

2018 Heartland Landmark Newport

We have a ‘17 Newport and ours is fine. How did it make it to a dealer without someone catching that mistake? They missed it at the new inspection facility?

Guess the motto on the day these were all made was.... "WE aim to please, you aim too please". :D

This shows how well the new inspection process is working,,,it’s not

Not trying to make an excuse for why this commode installation was poor, but please note that this 2018 model year coach would have been produced before the new audit facility was built.

Hi Dan, and thank you for your reply. The Manufacturer is Dometic. It is a Model 310, standard height, ceramic bowl, polypropylene seat and base. It is the same model as was in the other two units that were delivered to the same dealer. /mb

Thank you for your reply Brian. I will certainly share this with the dealer's service center and see if there is a similar solution for RV use.

We installed a Dometic 320 In the downstairs half bath, and the lid hits the back wall, not enough to cause it to close but enough to leave a mark on the wall. Does the 310 have a similar footprint? I attempted to slide the 320 all the way forward and it still hits. Maybe the problem is not with the installation but with the choice of toilets. If the upstairs has a different toilet I would swap with the upstairs. On the BC model putting a 320 upstairs is barely doable but the 310 will fit. The toilet on the BC is on the opposite side from the Landmarks so I am not sure if this would work. Other option would be a piece of Velcro on the toilet lid and another on the wall to hold the lid during business hours :)

I'd call Heartland Customer Service at 877-262-8032 / 574-262-8030. Have your VIN # ready. Ask what toilet manufacturer/model is spec'd for your half bath.

had that problem with our 2019 newport. bought a smaller egg shaped toilet seat at lowes. don't remember which one. measured the old one and took it with me to compare. also loosened toilet at base and twisted a little bit counter clockwise. that fixed ours. works fine now

Had this problem with our 22019 Newport. They loosened the mounting nuts and turned the toilet clockwise a little bit. Been working fine for 3 years.

I wonder if a temporary solution might be something lime a 3M Command adhesive hook on the wall (or a cup hanger hook), and a "holder" mechanics wire or double sided velcro setup.
