Installing Dish Satellite TV in a Gateway

Hi folks, I'm a new Gateway owner of about 3 months. My wife and I decided to go full-time, and have been living in our 2018 Gateway for 3 weeks now. I bought two Dish TV receivers, DVR's and Winegard Pathway X1 satellite antenna. The antenna does not have a power source internally, but gets it's power through the coax cable connecting it to the receiver. Even though our Gateway has connections for satellite TV, I can't use them because no power gets transmitted to the antenna through these Gateway connections. So, currently I have ugly coax cable running in through the door, and across the living room to the TV.

Has anyone else incurred this problem? And, if so, were you able to come up with a solution that enabled you to use the Gateway connections? Thanks, Leftybud.

I am not familiar with the Gateway coax, but in the mean time you can reduce the amount of ugly by running your coax in through the side of a slide next to a seal.

First of all, be certain you're using the satellite coax connector and not the cable coax connector. The cable wire goes through the signal booster and it won't pass satellite signals at all.

Second, you likely have some splitters in the coax run. Splitters, depending on type, can be a problem, especially when trying to pass power backward through the splitter.

Try setting up the primary receiver (the one that provides power to the satellite) in the bedroom. I think the bedroom satellite connection may be a direct run to the external coax connection.

Thanks for the suggestions danemayer. I found a diagram that labelled the connectors on the outside of my Gateway, and I used the satellite coax connector for the living room, with no response. I'll try connecting to the bedroom satellite connection next. Really appreciate your advice. Regards, leftybud.

Another solution is to change out the splitter with a power pass one. Not a cheep one, but a good broadband RF one.
