Dallas, Texas to Elkhart, IN

I have an appointment at the HRV service center in October, I’ve googled some routes but honestly have not spent much time exploring the options so I’m just looking for some advice on the route and anyplace to avoid from some that have already made the trip to Indiana.

We will actually be beginning this trip bright and early on a Saturday morning from Durant, Oklahoma, I know how to get there

Looking for recommendations on a place to pull over and rest for the night, whether it be a campground or just a rest area, I want to be more than 1/2 way there on Saturday evening, it’s a 900 to 1000 mile trip depending on the route.

I don’t have an auxiliary fuel tank but I’ll be taking 10 gallons of diesel just to be on the safe side.

We have a generator so don’t need any hookups along the way.

Why do you feel that you need an auxiliary fuel supply? I believe that any route you take has fuel stations?

We’ve stayed at Cabin RV park in Big Cabin, OK; Stanton/Meremec KOA in Sullivan, MO; Springfield/Route 66 KOA in Springfield MO; Camp Lakewood in Effingham, IL; Terre Haute KOA in Terre Haute, IN.

Not all on the same trip but these give you some recommended places along your route there.

You might want to skirt major cities even if it lengthens the trip a little. Also, with what's going on around the country, you might be better off in a campground than in a rest area or store parking lot.

I'd approach Elkhart from the south, avoiding the highways just to the south of Chicago. Traffic there can be awful. With Hurricane Laura going through the path you might take, check damage reports.

I've been known to somehow end up in some off the beaten path remote location

Thanks! Effingham looks like a great target for the night

Great points! Thanks

So head towards Indianapolis and take the 465 loop around to 31?
