Ford & Long 5thwheel camera run

Hi,
Has anyone installed a Ford rear view camera on a 43' or longer 5th wheel? If so, what length of extension cable did you need? I need to order a cable and the RV and truck are hours apart to take a measurement. I will be using the stock Ford camera and cable kit that includes the TPMS sensor and stems. I will have to order the larger stems to go on the sensors as the stock size is too small for the RV's wheels.

It appears there may be no one who has done this. If you are dead set on using Ford equipment, then it may be wise to wait until you can line up your equipment and get exactly what you need. I think there may be to many variables for you to be able to purchase your items ahead of time. Good luck.

Yes I did this on our 42' Landmark Ashland
It was A bit of a challenge running the harness all the way back underneath then up the back wall up to the camera. but worth the effort when it was all done. If I would get around to buying and installing the NavTv product I think it would be even better. If you are in reverse and put the Camera on "Aux" (Trailer Cam) then you shift to drive to pull ahead and back to Reverse again it defaults back to the darn tailgate camera... Kind of stupid.

I'm told the NavTv product will keep it on what ever cam you want.

As for the Ford supplied harness I had about 4" to spare not much at all.. But you can always cut it and make it longer. I Think !!!

I would use the same gauge wire so as not to cause any cam signal issues... just my thought NO IDEA if I'm right or not.

If you have any questions you can always PM me and I'll give you my number..

All of this info is great to be posted on the Forum but it is a lot easier for me to explain what I did over the phone...

Re: Ford & Long 5thwheel camera run

Hi,

I did. Our trailer is 41 feet. Camera near the roof line centered.

The factory cable was just long enough to snake inside the frame rails and up to the front generator compartment. My factory harness ended maybe 3 feet in from the ODS along the front wall right where the the front cap goes from horizontal to vertical.

The outside harness which include the camera and/or yaw sensor TPMS was long enough that I could have come up several feet short if necessary.

I did not option the TPMS, not interested in the way the Ford works and haven't gotten positive answers yet if it will work with 17.5" rims.

I did add the yaw sensor. That option is basically a crutch for those that can't back, but it is pretty neat. I can back my trailer several hundred feet in a straight line hands free.
Works even better on my boat trailer.

If you look around you can find cameras for sale. I picked up a second camera/harness and 12 pin connector and harness.
I'll use that as a portable camera for my boat and motorcycle trailer.

Note, my truck is a 2020.
2020 and newer use different parts.

NAVTV is now supposed to work with the 2020's but the last i checked the website still does not list it and my last email from them last month said it wasn't ready.
Also, the better optioned version is pricey.

FYI, the 2021's are supposed to be better with the cameras, including allowing the rear camera to stay on while in forward motion.

I'm still waiting to see if the FORScan experts figure out how to get the 2020's to mimic the 2021's

I installed both Ford TPMS and camera systems on our 2017 Landmark Newport 42'-8" 5'er. The length of the camera wires are almost long enough but I worried about tight turns so I bought a 5' extension, (smallest I could find). Excess fits well in the road side propane tank compartment. I'm sure there are better systems but the truck came with everything so it wasn't a hard decision. I did have to upsize valve stems but it works great. One thing I've noticed is that Ford trailer TPMS screen tops out at 175 PSI. Coming across Washington near Moses Lake it hit 105 degrees and all tires were stuck on 175.
