Quality of work questioned

As the current owner of a 2014 Bighorn 3010re, and the previous owner of a Holiday Rambler Alumascape, I’ve seen behind the walls of several RVs as I repaired and done modification on them. I was recently behind the dresser drawer in the bedroom and noticed where the outside speaker wiring hole was placed. The following picture will show the precision of that placement, and the attention to quality they took in creating that hole. It never ceases to amaze me at how these things a knocked out at the factories, and I know Heartland is somewhat better then most.

My water line going to my residential frig was routed the same way. Where a hole was needed and not seen, instead of drilling or cutting a nice hole; a hammer was used to knock a hole in a partition.

At past RV shows, I would open doors and drawers and move whatever I could to see beyond the pretty smoke and mirrors. All of them are pretty much the same shoddy construction behind the lipstick. Even the cabinetry construction is a joke in many.

Keep in mind most workers at the factory’s are paid by piece work. The more they install, the more they make. Thus the quickest methods are used with little regard to workmanship. My opinion is that the manufacturers could save a bundle in warranty claims if they instilled workmanship over speed. Along with a much higher ownership satisfaction value.
