Not sure if you still need info, but I live in Reno and drive to vegas often. I think I have been every route possible. 395 is no issue unless there is snow. Parts of 395 are over 8k feet. How you get across from 95 to 395 can be an issue. Going 6 to 120 is not terrible, but 120 is narrow and rolly...reminds me of an old wooden roller coaster. Staying on 6 is better but longer.....going across from Vegas to 395 through Death Valley is easier but way longer. 95 does have scenery and if you have never done it, it's not all bad. 395 can be awesome, especially mono pass.
