    "Remote controller"

I like to use ours when extending slides as I can keep an eye on the slide to watch for obstructions, binding, etc. I also use it for the awning when first deploying for the same reason. Need to have...no. Nice to have...yes. Haven't used it for raising or lowering front jacks as I like to...

    Level up jack leak

Sounds like it might be a leaking seal on the jack cylinder. I had one develop shortly after purchasing our BH in one of the rear jacks. I suspect that the jack had some sand or grit on it when retracted and this was drawn into the seal, causing a minor leak. It doesn't seem to leak a lot...

Recommended Camping in Ottawa Canada Area

Geodude. Thanks for the reply. I think we may have stayed in that campground about 16 years ago with a 25'TT we had at that time. I like the location; as you say, central to the City, but I wasn't sure if it was suitable for our Bighorn which stands MUCH taller than the old SOB. I believe it...

Recommended Camping in Ottawa Canada Area

Hello everybody. We are planning a trip to Eastern Canada and expect to be in the area of our nation's Capital around the end of May to mid-June or so. We have been that way a few times, but this is the first time with the Bighorn in tow. Can anyone recommend a good campground (either Quebec...

    Inflating Tires

Another vote for the Viair 450P. I used to carry a 3 gallon 110 volt compressor, but find the Viair will inflate and maintain my trailer tires at 110 psi without the weight and bulk of the larger electric unit. As noted, the Viair is not the cheapest option out there, but it is a good one.

    Calling all BigHorn 3010re owners.

We have a 2014 3010RE with the rocker recliners. With the TV mounted at the rear, it is a bit awkward to watch tv for extended periods of time from the recliners unless we move them. They are a bit heavy to move, so I let the wife wrestle with them. We don't watch a lot of tv when on the...

Looking for repair and maintenance info on Ford vs. Chevy...

A comment for rhodies1. I also had problems with an earlier Ford product (transmission) which started to show up at around 19000 KM. The dealership repeatedly told me that they could not detect a problem and eventually the transmission failed completely at about 54000 KM. It was well under...

    Living room lights not working

We had a similar problem with the lights in our kitchen slide and it also turned out to be worn insulation under the slide from movement. Moved and re-insulated the wires and have had no more issues to date.

What air compressor do you carry with you?

I am interested in your pigtail setup. I also would like to run my Viair 450P from the rear of the truck; it would be a lot simpler I think. Any advice or photos on how you set yours up? Greg

    Portable Air Compressor Recommendations

I have the Viair 450P, a 12 volt compressor. I bought it on line through Amazon.ca and have been impressed with it. It easily maintains our tires at the required 110psi and is a good solid pump. It is a bit pricey, but beats the heck out of carrying a 110 volt compressor with us. We don't...

    Unsafe Distracted Driving

Considering the volume of modern traffic, the speeds that people travel and the tonnage involved...I don't see why anyone feels that driving requires anything but complete attention. The cab of a moving vehicle is not a restaurant, hairdressing salon, telephone booth or movie theatre. Just my...

    Insurance. Are you properly protected?

We are also from Ontario and I have my unit stored with a local dealer. At the time of storage, we had to provide proof that we were insured. I believe that the dealers carry insurance for those things that are their responsibility, but we have to carry our own, separate, insurance for...

    Advice on New Slider Hitch

The slider I was looking at was the Curt Q16. It has wrap-around jaws and not the bar lock. My reason for staying with what I currently have is that the hitch is working well, with little or no noticeable chucking, and the damage to my trailer nose has already been done thru contact with the...

    Advice on New Slider Hitch

OK. Now that I have started the argument...I think I will keep my existing fixed hitch for the time being. If I had bought the slider at the time of the initial purchase, I am sure I would have been happy with it. That is assuming that I used it it every time I needed it, and one thing I have...

    Dinnette Chairs

We have had no issues with the dinette chairs, but it is not unusual for wood furniture to loosen up with changes in humidity and climate. Usually not a difficult fix for wooden furniture, even in the home. Like SNOKING, we used our folding dinette chairs for the first time in almost two years...

I've thought the same thing when we leave our Nissan parked in front of the trailer. I often thought it made a pretty funny picture.

    Advice on New Slider Hitch

Rollin_Free: I am not sure of the clearance between box and trailer. The trailer is currently stored some distance from my home, but I think that I do have the six inches...over the box itself. The tonneau cover adds another four inches or so when folded, and covers the front third of the...

    Advice on New Slider Hitch

Thanks for the advice so far. I have a 6.5' box, and also have a try-fold tonneau cover that I leave on while trailering. When making sharper reverse turns, the front of the BH has contacted the frame of the tonneau cover on occasion, causing "snake-bite" scratches on the fibre glass. I...

    Advice on New Slider Hitch

I want to replace my fixed, 16K ProSeries hitch in my short box Ram with a slider hitch. There are many out there, and I am looking at the Curt 16K as it will handle my present BH 3010RE (just under 14000 loaded for the road). Does anyone out there have any negative experiences with this...

    Trailer Wiring Adapter

I want to add an in-box plug to connect my Bighorn trailer wiring but still keep the existing 7 blade connector at the rear bumper area. I know there are a number of adapters out there, but does anyone have a recommendation. I am looking for something that will be "plug & play" and well made...

    spare tire

Part of my twice annual prep is to lower the spare tire and check to make sure things are not rusted up underneath too badly. Past experience with a seized cable mechanism under a previous truck taught me to use it occasionally BEFORE I needed it to make sure I COULD use it. Also, I just...

    ST or LT tires

We just changed out our OEM tires on our 2014 BH for a set of Sailun S637's. You will find many other threads on this forum regarding tires, and the Sailuns seem to be as well regarded as some of the others. I only have about 3000 miles on these, but am impressed so far with the ride and...

How to remove old silicone caulking

There is a product manufactured by DAP, "SILICONE-BE-GONE". It is sold by Canadian Tire in Canada, but may be available in the US. I used it to remove clear silicone sealant on my boat a while back before resealing the opening in the stern with silicon. Worked well for me then, but still...

Wheel Lug Nuts - Where to Buy?

Thanks to all for the tips regarding trailer lug nuts. Porthole, I was able to buy the Gorilla brand that you recommended and they were perfect. Swapped out the new for old today and re-torqued all to factory specs. When I removed the OEM lug nuts, 15 of the 32 nuts were either rounded off...

    Bridge heights

Does anyone have a suggestion as to an accurate method of measuring the height of the rig when loaded and hooked up? The paperwork with my BH said 12' 11" at time of purchase, but I don't know if that included the front A/C. I also assume that the height is variable depending on your tow...

Wheel Lug Nuts - Where to Buy?

Thanks for all the replies and help. We have a couple of NAPA outlets in my local area and I had tried there for the nuts with no success. I will return there with the part # and see if they can get them in for me. Shipping from the US to Can usually involves border/customs hassles and extra...

Wheel Lug Nuts - Where to Buy?

I'm having trouble finding lug nuts to fit the 16" wheels on my 2014 Bighorn 3010RE. The ones that came on it are 2" chromed 9/16" nuts that have a cheap chrome metal cap over the steel nut. The chrome caps are becoming stripped and I am worried that they will not be able to be removed if I...

    Bicycle transporting

I too, have been trying to think of the best way to transport two bicycles on the road. I don't want to add a hitch to the rear of the Bighorn and have been considering adding a 2" receiver to the front of our TV. For those with experience in doing this; has it had any effect on engine or...

    Talk me out of it...

Before we bought our Bighorn, we were actually in the market for a Class A. We had previously owned a motor home at one time, and had also had a TT for a while. We liked the convenience of the motor home, but realized that we would take a HUGE hit on the resale later on due to depreciation...

    Big Horn bumper pull?

The three hour plus distance shouldn't be the determining factor. It sounds like you are not interested in bunk beds, no exterior awning and lack of outside storage. Persevere in your search. There are lots of units out there that will have what you want, but you might have to travel a bit to...

    Big Horn bumper pull?

Funkdharley, you are probably the only person who can decide if the trailer is worth 6900. It goes without saying that you need to personally inspect the vehicle top to bottom before laying out any cash; but this would apply even if you were buying brand new. If you don't feel comfortable with...

    Rotating trailer tires

It sounds like Dan's Landmark is configured similar to our BH3010RE, although I think the Landmark is heavier overall. When we were weighed, I attributed the weight difference to the fact that the large slide and all the heavy stuff is on the OD side, with almost minimal furnishings on the DS...

    New Rubber on our BH3010RE

I've heard good things about Michelins generally, and the 50 K warranty (which translates to 80 K here in Canada) is far better than the wear I got out of my BFG All-Terrain tires. The BFG's are also a good tire, but we didn't need the softer rubber and aggressive treading that comes with this...

    Rotating trailer tires

We had our BH3010RE weighed last year and the results showed the the forward trailer axle was 800 heavier on the left (OD) side while the rear axle was 900 heavier on the left (OD) side. We also do not have the washer dryer combo. Ours was weighed with all tanks empty (Black, Grey, & Fresh)...

    Rotating trailer tires

We just replaced the original Towmax with 5 Sailun 637's. The spare is on the steel wheel that came with unit, however, I will replace that with matching rim so that I can rotate all five tires annually. There is a lot of weight difference from one side of the trailer to the other on our...
