    2006 Landmark Monticello

Thanks. I've heard about the frame flexing quite a few times. Sounds like it has always been an issue. Hydraulic leaks sound like more of a pita than anything else, unless lines get damaged by normal operation.

    F350 or F450?

Thanks, Erica. Since we have neither truck nor trailer about all I can do is guess. It looks like an F350 might work for some Heartlands, while the F450 would work for all. MTPockets, I'll check with the insurance agent in the morning.

If you own one, what has been your experience with this coach? Since this was fairly early in Heartland's history, were there any teething problems with this coach?

    F350 or F450?

After nearly two years of enjoying our Foretravel MH we're seeing that a 5'er might suit us better. The Foretravel was the right coach at that time, but our activities have changed, with us staying in one spot for longer periods of time. This evening I found a 2006 Landmark Monticello that...

    Any known issues?

Some of you may recognize my user name as one that was pretty common here a couple of years ago. Two years we bought our Foretravel MH because it was the best fit for us at that time. Things change, and we're thinking that maybe a towable might be a better choice for us. What are the known...

    Any known issues?

Some of you will recognize my user name as one that was pretty common a few years ago. Two years ago we bought a Foretravel motor home as our full-time coach because that was the best choice for us at that time. Things change, and we're now considering a towable coach as our next coach, so...

    2008 Bighorn 3400RE specs?

Starting to talk about trading coaches and found this online. Unfortunately, the ad doesn't have any real numbers. I'm interested in: Empty weight Gross weight Pin weight Tank capacities If you have one of these please share your information. Thanks.

    ATF: MPG - hitch capacity

You will get answers from 125 pounds to 250 pounds. It is really intended for just a lightweight bike, so I would think you'd be asking for trouble if you tried to go heavier.

    I'm a new member.....I've got some questions!

The mpg is a pretty decent little camper, but it isn't anywhere close to a Tiffen. Depending on your size, it can be great for weekends to a month or so. For one or two people it works well. Three need to be pretty close. We had our mpg 181 for just over two years and thoroughly enjoyed it. NO...

Attaching things / hardware - MPG construction & structure?

"Those pics are really helpful - how great would it be to see a pic of the skeleton on one of these huh? Does anyone know if the frame is aluminum or steel? Just wondering how I could locate the substructure" You could try calling the factory. They would certainly be able to tell you whether it...

    If you're looking to buy...

181bobkat, I think you have made an excellent choice for a first RV. We bought ours a few years after becoming empty nesters, too. After a few nights on the original mattress, though, we added a foam topper, and that help immensely. We used sleeping bags on the mattress and foam because making...

    De-Winterizing Help / Instructions

Since each floorplan of the mpg has the plumbing arranged differently, general information doesn't help much. Perhaps someone who owns (or has owned) a 183 could help out the OP. The general instructions are as true for our Foretravel as they were for our 181. The specifics, though, differ...

    looking to buy mpg 182

Welcome, Tino. Sounds like you have done some homework and have a pretty good idea of what you need and want. The biggest drawback in an mpg is the bathroom is pretty tiny. It is fully functional, yes, but there isn't much room in there. Sure beats running to the bathhouse in the campground at 3...

seeking hitch suggestions for MPG 181 and Toyota Tacoma pairing

We had an Equal-i-zer weight distributing hitch that went with our 181. Worked well, with no sway. Since I'm the slowest driver on the road I kept speeds to 55-60. Even with some cross-wind and semis passing we never felt uncomfortable.

ATF: MPG - tech question - load limits

There isn't much stuff in it, and we want to make sure that everything is clean and ready to go, so it won't take more than a few minutes to get everything out. Right now the biggest delay is all the rain we've gotten. We've gone from major drought to flooding. I'm sure that by July we'll be...

    If you're looking to buy...

Leanna66, sorry it has been so long since I was on this forum. After we sold the trailer things got REALLY busy here. Hope all is going well for you and your new mpg. Feel free to email me with any questions. I'll try to do a better job of monitoring the forum now that things aren't quite so hectic.

ATF: MPG - tech question - load limits

Having a known base weight is a great idea, and one that is frequently recommended. We brought our Foretravel home a month ago, and after we're sure we're not going to get any more frost I'm going to dewinterize it, fill the water tank, fill the propane tank, fill the fuel tank, and then weight...

    If you're looking to buy...

Wednesday we got a phone call from Happy Trails, where we had our mpg on consignment. They had an offer for us to consider. When we called back later, I asked if this was from the people who had contacted me directly. It wasn't. They were working with another salesman, and they made a better...

    New Axle, final word

Glad you finally got things taken care of. I'd probably question Camping World about the $125 to install the tires. Isn't that normally included in the price of the tires? Anyway, didn't they have to take the tires off of the old axle when they installed the new one? There was no extra work...

    ATF: MPG - Axle upgrade?

Thanks, Dan. That's what I thought, too. There aren't all that many mpg trailers running around anyway, so it isn't surprising that there aren't all that many posts about problems. We've pulled ours 5-6000 miles in the two years we've had it, and not had any problems with the running gear.

    ATF: MPG - Axle upgrade?

A friend of mine is looking for an mpg 181, and mentioned that the axles seem to be a trouble spot, and that there is an axle upgrade available. I've never heard of that. What's the real story?

I wonder if a different faucet, mounted in the same place as the one you have, would be easier.

ATTN! MPG Owners ---need some help!

On our 2011 mpg 181 the faucet is located on the counter, but touching the sink. There are no knockouts on the sink. Which model do you have?

    ATF: MPG - tires

Glad it is all turning out well for you, Billy. I know that Heartland monitors these forums, and they do pick up ideas from them. I would hope that this thread would tell them that those of us who have purchased a new trailer (or motorhome, for that matter) should not be expected to deal with...

    If you're looking to buy...

Egan, the mpg was always a "work in progress" type of trailer. Running changes were made as people commented on things. Ours doesn't have the rear window, but does have the front window. Poke around here and you will find a thread where someone added a window in the door and another window in...

    If you're looking to buy...

Upgrading. We've decided that our full-time retirement coach will be a DP motor home. Realistically we won't be using the mpg until summer, so we decided to put it up for sale a Happy Trails. They will find it a good home, and then we'll be ready to buy our coach. The mpg was a good rig for us...

    If you're looking to buy...

I've had a couple people contact me about our mpg. It is on consignment at HappyTrailsRVCenter.com and you should contact them about purchasing it. We bought it from them and they have done all of the service work on it (except for the emergency replacement of a leaking propane hose at the 2011...

    ATF: MPG - tires

You took your trailer to the new dealer on Saturday, 17 November and got it back today, 17 December, and there is nothing wrong?! That obviously isn't right. It looks to me like the trailer is running only on the inside edge of the tire, and the tire isn't quite parallel to the track. As I see...

    We got it!

Congratulations! We really enjoyed our 181, and olcoon is right - you will want to go out every chance you get. Your boys are just the right ages to really get into camping. Teach them all about it and we won't have to worry about the next generation.

Fabulous Thanksgiving camping at Rainbow Springs State Park, FL BUT.....

Absolutely, and this isn't meant as any sort of "dig" at Gary or anyone else. Always have someone look over any wiring before connecting the power. Even if the person doing the checking doesn't know anything about wiring, and you have to explain it to them, just going through it and saying out...

    Insurance question

I got more and better information today. I talked to our State Farm agent, who called Underwriting. The person she talked to this time around actually knew what she was talking about. Our mpg IS covered for damage that might happen to it while at the dealer's place. What ISN'T covered is...

    Insurance question

Well, I took the mpg in for winterizing and annual service today, and while I was there I talked to the owner. Since I last talked to them, he has talked to his attorney and insurance people, and they will NOT provide any coverage or accept any liability for any consigned unit. We talked about...

    Weekend camping in the winter

When we bought our 181 it was early December, and the unit had already been winterized. We dry-camped in it in January with no problems. Of course, it was 70 degrees out that weekend, but the temperatures dropped on Sunday, and it was quite a bit cooler when we got home that afternoon than it...

Water filtration system for mpg travel trailer

We use an inline cartridge. I prefer to put the pressure regulator directly on the faucet, then the filter, and then the hose going to the trailer. Sometimes I have to use a short section of hose between the faucet and the regulator or the regulator and the filter to avoid a too-sharp bend.

    New mattress suggestions

The first night in our 181 we slept in sleeping bags on the original mattress. For our first trip, though, we put sheets on it. That trip was supposed to be three weeks long, but got interrupted part-way through by our daughter's surgery. We added a mattress topper we already had, since we were...
