    New tires

@hoefler - I've been looking at 17.5's casually for a while now - What'd you do for wheels? Assume just a plain steel wheel?

    Suspension

I recently upgraded all the springs, bushings, hardware, equalizers and wetbolt/long shackle kit on my Oakmont, and it rides like a cloud now. Coming from the off-road suspension world, my experience has always been that the short shackles don't ride well, don't allow the spring to move as...

Oakmont 375QB Modification & Customization Thread

It’s been a little while since I’ve updated this thread, but I do have a few mods to add since the last time. We’ve been doing more boondocking and as a result added a second house battery. I used a storage tote from Home Depot and grafted the vent connections into the bottom and the lid to keep...

Campground availability forecast for July 2021

I would certainly plan on making reservations, if you still can. I’ve found campgrounds to be extremely full and booked out for MONTHS out here (I’m also in Tucson). We’re even finding that BLM and State Land Trust camping areas (dispersed, boondocking) are pretty full around here.

    Sailun Truck Tires????

my buddy is running Hankook DH05’s on his 450. 265/70-19.5, and it looks really fantastic. That said, they are a pretty aggressive tread for highway use and tend to sing down the road. I’m replacing my factory 17’s with 19.5’s here soon and am planning on either Toyo M609z or Arisun AD778’s at...

    Lug nuts

Perhaps a silly question, but do folks run locking lug nuts on their trailers? The tires we run certainly aren't inexpensive, and the locks are relatively easy to work with (for expediency on the side of the road). They probably won't stop a determined thief, but more act as a deterrent. I...

    Protecting tires while stationary

My full time residence in the AZ sun (Just south of Tucson, AZ), and I cover EVERYTHING. This sun eats EVERYTHING exposed to it, so I keep tires covered. It takes all of 5 minutes and provides me some peace of mind. I'm squarely in the camp of "it does no harm" to cover them. That said, I...

Oakmont 375QB Modification & Customization Thread

Latest upgrade as of yesterday. I'm super excited to give this a try and see how much it improves the ride!! 14-July-2021 EDIT: We recently completed an AZ-to-IL and back roadtrip with the 5th wheel covering more than 3200 miles. The MorRyde pinbox performed flawlessly and definitely...

Oakmont 375QB Modification & Customization Thread

A wet bolt kit is definitely on the list! I have the Dexter E-Z flex equalizers on each side now, is the MOR/ryde a substantial upgrade over that?

Thank you, and same to you! I've made some mods to the truck also, with many more planned, maybe I’ll post those as well.

Oakmont 375QB Modification & Customization Thread

Last weekend, I finished updating all of the marker lights to LED. The marker lights received retrofit LED bulbs, but I chose to completely replace the taillights. These lights are MUCH brighter and more visible - something which the original lights were definitely not. I wanted to make sure...

Oakmont 375QB Modification & Customization Thread

Hello! While the Oakmont may no longer be in production by Heartland RV's, there are still a ton of them out there, and have really awesome features. We picked up this really nice 2016 375QB bunkhouse model back in December of 2020, as it has four bunks in the back which was PERFECT for our four...

Adjusting the Height of Rear and Side landing gear

I can’t take all of the credit, as I saw something similar on the internet and adapted it for my needs. These blocks are 4 15.5”x15.5” squares of 3/4” pressure treated plywood, glued and screwed together. Then I glued a piece of 3/4” rubber stall mat to each side of the blocks. They’re about...

Hitches are Heavy - How to Routinely Install/Remove????

Titan 42”? I opted for the 36, but they’re definitely one of the handiest attachments I’ve bought! (The backhoe Thumb was pretty handy too!)

Hitches are Heavy - How to Routinely Install/Remove????

I'm not a full-timer, so I haven't really had an instance where we've needed to remove the hitch while on a trip (typically weekends away), but frequently remove the hitch when we return home to use the truck for other things. All that being said, my method won't fit everyone, and requires a...

Adjusting the Height of Rear and Side landing gear

I had posted a similar question on the FB forum and received some interesting replies, but no comparative measurements. I also felt that my jacks were too high and wanted to lower them. I built those big block more to spread out the weight of the trailer when off the beaten path boondocking, but...

    -Sailun S637 (Trailer), ST235/85R-16

I purchased a set of 4 Sailuns from SimpleTire on 1Feb2021, Two tires were 4720, and two were 4820. Basically two months old after shipping from Vietnam to the US, being warehoused, and shipped to me. I was pretty impressed with that, to be honest.

Adjusting the Height of Rear and Side landing gear

7-8 inches, wow! I have been wondering about lowering mine, mine are around the same height as the centerline of the axles (14-15") fully retracted! for what it's worth, I also have to use blocking under our trailer. I wasn't comfortable with the Andersen plastic buckets, so I built my own...

Back up camera electrical ('15 Bighorn)

I've been eyeing this one as of late for my Oakmont. It replaces one of the rear marker lights and draws power from the lighting system. I typically run with my parking lights or headlights when traveling, so that's not too much of an inconvenience for me...
