Went to camping world

Friend and I went to Camping World in Mesa today, he wanted to look at Coleman 5th wheels. Salesman asked me if I wanted to buy a trailer, said that I own a Heartland. he said that it is a good thing that I bought it before they went out of business. I looked at him and he said that is the reason Thor bought into heartland so to keep it afloat. I told him yea right. Then he took us to see a more expensive trailer instead of a colman. Did not get a good feeling from this guy. Some people will do anything. Really didn't want to get into a pieing contest with him. Later Ernie & Lettie

Oh brother - how uninformed can a salesperson be? I guess they don't do their own research or keep up with the industry on their own. Some may only be fed what their GSM wants them to know. I don't blame you for not wanting to make a scene. To what end would it have been anyway.

It's amazing what sales people will stoop too, just to sell a competing product...LOL!!

In thinking about this incident, I wonder if this was a new salesman desperate for a sale, or a seasoned veteran. I might have done one of two things: Abort this mission and look elsewhere (or possibly continue to look, knowing I'd never buy from this bozo), or ask for the sales manager and see if they have been misinformed about the sale of Heartland.

Skyguy, first he was seasoned, my friend got upset when he wanted to look at colemans trailer, and never did. Second the salesperson asked me to give him some money down on a trailer that my friend really didn't make up his mind on yet. Salesman started playing games, Just found out that another salesman has somebody on the hook and if you give me money down then the trailer is yours. Needless to say we left and won't be going back. Some people have no morals anymore. Ernie

How about writing a letter to the editor of Trailer Life magazine. I believe they are owned by Affinity the same parent company. Then IF they publish it everyone would know how dishonest that salesman is. BTW don't forget to name names and places and dates. Betcha the salesman would lose his job.

I honesty think 'Camping World' trains their staff to be like that! I can't say enough bad about them through my own personal experiances and dealings.

We visited the CW store in Strafford a few weeks ago. They had a sign at the entrance saying "Home of the $11995 trailer" or something to that effect. We asked about that trailer, and after a bit of head-scratching, we were told that they didn't have any of those in stock at that time, but were expecting more in a week or so. The salesman then showed us quite a few trailers that more or less fit what we were looking for. In all fairness to him, he had never seen us before, so he really didn't know what we wanted. We thanked him for his time and went on down the road to Happy Trails RV Center, where we bought our mpg 181.

Most Camping Worlds I've visited are associated with an RV Dealer in some way but I don't know that the staffing are part of the same management. When we go to these facilities, I've normally had a good experience with the staff from CW. On the other hand, some/many RV dealers are out for a sale no matter what. We were fortunate when we bought our first trailer from a Wisconsin Rapids dealer. We found a good one and stuck with him.

I must like Camping World since I drove all the way from Michigan to Orlando just to purchase a hose fitting and save the $11.00 S&H charge on an $8.00 item. Or so I told the friendly cashier. Although we were greeted when we walked in, nobody pounced on us like we were fresh meat.

It seems that every Camping World RV sales group work differently. There is one in Chattanooga that will not even let you on their lot unless you are escorted by a salesperson and they are always advertising things they don't have................needless to say, we do not frequent that location even though they are closer to us than other locations. On the other hand, the sales persons at the CW in Knoxville does not bother you at all..........you are free to look around as you please (this is where we go). The sales persons are there to help when you ask. Any dealership, cars/rv's etc, that the sales people attack you like raw meat and try feed you BS is a dealership that we avoid. I will say that most CW lots that we have visited we don't have problems with.

Van, I think you are right. The CW in Myrtle Beach is the pits. They dont hound you, they just ignore you when you are trying to find something.
The one we stopped at in Woodstock GA was great. They matched several items that were on "internet sale only" . They even fired up a Champion generator for us that was outside to show us how quiet it was.

When we stopped in Anthony Texas, we went to the camping world in front of the RV park we stayed in. Very nice people, did not bother us unless we had a question and were very helpfull. The camping world here in tucson has changed a good deal since Beaudry Rv went out of business. The one in mesa was nice but this salesman was the pits. All of them are different. The camping world in Katy, Texas has real nice sales people. I bought my heartland big country from them. They do a real good job. Joe French is the sales manager of the rv sales.

We went with some friends to an RV show, Camping World only inventory on display, yesterday at the Lake County, IL fairgrounds. They had a nice BH3610RE on display which was getting quite a bit of attention. The salesman was feeding everyone who would listen how Heartland was doing poorly financially for awhile so CW stopped carrying their product line until Thor purchased Heartland. He was saying the same about the Montana line and how CW only carried product from strong companies. What a croc of poo poo. It was all I could do to hold my tongue. Maybe with the Affinity Group getting a new CEO he will be able to instill some integrity into their sales staff.
