Spare tire carrier

Looking at the spare tire carrier on our Trail Runner, I was wondering if I switched the bracket around so that the tire is under the trailer, if it would hold? With the height of the trailer from the ground there should be no clearence issues.

Just wondering if anyone has tried this in the past.

we are actually looking to do the same thing. Hubby is looking to find a mounting system from an old truck or something to mount it under the trailer. If you have a factory tire carrier check it well! The welds on ours ripped and we cut them out and replaced the thin plate that was bending from the tightening of the u bolts with a thicker piece of steel.
