Good Morning All,

I have a 2011 Cyclone 3950 HD and can't figure out how the roof vent over the garage got opened. I can't find a button to push inside and don't remember opening it in the first place. Is there some magic button inside to open and close the vent. I have the side vents opened but can't figure out how in the hect that vent was opened. TIA for any assistance.

If it is a manual crank vent then I have had instances where this type of vent has "worked its way open" just from travelling down the highway if it was not tightly closed before hand. Don't ask me how it did this, but I suspect it was from eddy currents and vibration that sucked it open. Cranking it closed with a firm hand helped it from happening again.

Your side vents open when travelling may also have created an air imbalance (between inside and outside) and pushed it open as well? I know, this might be stretching a bit but who really knows? I travel with two vents open (covered with max airs). Years ago, travelling on gravel roads my dad used to give me heck for having the rear window open in the back because it "sucked in" gravel dust (slider rear window on a 1/2 ton truck) without a front vent window open.

If it is a real problem, you can put a Max Air vent cover on it and just leave it open.

Hope this helps.

Take care,
Brian

Brian,

Don't know where there would be a crank? This vent can't even be seen from the inside of the garage......

Joe, then this might sound really dumb. How do you know its open if you cant see it?? You got me really confused. Is it something you can hear or see only from the outside??

Joe

Peculiar you cannot see the vent from inside - unfortunately I have not been in a 2011 3950 so cannot picture where the vent is on the roof relative to inside access. Maybe another owner of a 2011 3950 can chime in....

Sorry I cannot help you any more.....

Do you have a fridge in the garage at the front (door side) - I went on to the Heartland web and looked at the pictures of your unit and one is shown there. Maybe it a vent for that fridge?

Can you post a picture of your roof showing the vent (taken from your deck?)

Take care,
Brian

I do have a fridge in the garage and yes it is right by the side door to the garage. I will look there to see if there is a crank/button to push.

Maybe the mystery is partly solved. I am not sure how Heartland vents this fridge if it is a standard RV fridge (ie ammonia cooling coils). If it is a standard 110V fridge then I'm stumped.

I don't have a Cyclone, but in my 405RW, there is a vent over the loft (bed) area that is above the garage and not seen from in the garage. Not sure if this is same on yours

Joe, I also have the beds that come down from the ceiling in my garage that have a Fantastic vent above them but I am talkig about a bed space that is above the garage, not in it. It is accessed by climbing a ladder in the main living area of the TH and above that bed there is a regular vent that opens and closes with a hand crank.

Looks like my last post didn't make it.....I would have never thought of this but you are exactly right. I will check this evening when I get home from work. Is your 405RW the same floor plan as the 3950? Sure are nice TH's.

Joe, I'm not sure if the floor plan is the same, we looked at a Cyclone HD but went with the Road Warrior. I think some things are similar but not exact. Yes, they are great TH's and the only thing that surprised me was the first time I unloaded my 09 Ultra was the steepness of the ramp, front brake locked but the weight of the bike plus my 225+ slid the front tire almost all the way down the ramp...that was an eye opening experience

I haven't tried pulling the 09 Heritage Softail Classic in yet. I've heard from a couple of guys I may need to winch it in because it sits so low. Also, you may want to try putting the bike in gear going down the ramp instead of using the brakes, just clutch it down. I was coming out of the garage on Saturday with the scooter and had the same issue with the front tire sliding. I'm glad it only weighs 300 pounds. I can imagine the feeling I weigh about 230 and the FLHSTC weighs about 750 with all fluids....That's alot of pizza coming down that ramp. I wouldn't have thought the ramps would be that slippery......

Joe, I have no problem loading my Ultra with the dove tail on the rear of the garage deck have never bottomed out, just keep the power on until you're on level decking. Unloading is another issue but your suggestion was excactly what I was going to try the next time I unloaded. Not sure the ramp is "that slippery" more just the laws of gravity and since we are about the same weight but my Ultra adds another 250# to total being dragged down. Hope you find that vent control above the loft when you get home. I'm headed home my self

Our 2011 3950 has 2 roof vents near the rear. The very rear one is above the electric beds in the garage. The next one is between the 2 loft beds. There is no roof vent required for the garage refrigerator as they are not powered by propane - electric only.
