Beach for Christmas 2014?

Were thinking about having our Christmas the sunday before Christmas. Have the kids and grand kids over after we get out of Church. Then Monday head south, its about 6 hours to Gulfport. So thinking somewhere east or west of there. Stay until the Monday after, then come back home. This will give us a week before getting back to work. And that would sure make it nice.
Any good spots? Any to stay away from? Best places to stay and just relax. My wife had 15 days off at Christmas this time. And she did not get much rest. So thinking if we just leave home and go where its warmer. Cut the phones off and relax. She was on the phone every weekday with work, or on her PC. So work would not find us away from home. As for one small Business, just put Vacation no orders until the first of the year.
We both enjoy seeing old homes, Parks and gardens, Fishing, Walking when I can, and just fun. So any pointers will sure help out the planning of where to stay and what is worth seeing.
Leave home Dec 22 and head back this way on the 29th. And may not come all the way home that day. Just drive a few miles and stay the night and come on home Tuesday. Even though its only 6 hours home. Thinking 3 hours on the road and stay the night and finish it up the next day. HWY 45 from Tn to I-59 in ms is our route.

I am a West Coaster but your quote: "We both enjoy seeing old homes, Parks and gardens, Fishing, Walking when I can, and just fun " I thought of what I have heard about Savannah, Georgia. It seems to fit all that. Is that far enough South???

We just spent 2 weeks in Savannah 12/20 - 1/3. So much to see & do there. Weather was beautiful. So mark us as a x3 for Savannah.

Man can't believe I did not get back to this one. We have been to Savannah and its nice. But thinking more along the lines of Gulfport Ms or around there. But have been thinking more of just going to Natchez Ms and doing Christmas there. As we both love the old homes there. And it would be so nice to see it at Christmas time.

I haven't been yet, but I'm planning a trip to a white sand beach and I researched beach RV parks in Gulf Port & Gulf Shores...
the Silver Slipper Casino has an RV Park down the road away from the casino just across the highway from the beach.

Don't know about any old houses, looks like Katrina blew them off their foundations. This RV park looks remote with a view of the ocean and the beach across the street.

Anybody been?

You might want to consider Fontainebleau State Park just over the Mississippi state line in Louisiana. We lived in Ocean Springs, MS near Gulfport and would go there occasionally for a weekend before we went full time. Nice area, lots of history, near New Orleans, near Abita Brewery. If you go there, be sure to eat at least once at Louie and the Red Hair Lady restaurant
