First trip with 26RKS

Well, we picked up our "new" 2010 North Trail 26RKS on Friday afternoon! WooHoo, we are now officially part of the RV crowd! Picked it up for a steal at $12k out the door. NADA for these things is north of $16k. TV is a 2004 Chevy Avalanche 1500 Z71 with factory tow package.

First impressions:

1. The interior is very nice to look at with the light wood and cut glass cabinet doors. Looks so much more expensive than other plain interiors.
2. Wish there was just a little more room to maneuver around the bed.
3. Mattress has to go!
4. That 16-18" of slide out seems to double the space!
5. Electric stabilizers!!! One is bent in rear. Looks like previous owner tried to drive off with it down. On repair list
6. Water heater bypass valves could be in a better place (or I need to get smaller!).
7. Fastways E2 hitch works wonders and was fast to set up. Had 35mph crosswind on the drive from Longmont to Castle rock. Not even a nudge of sway!
8. Brakes needed all of the available voltage from the controller to have much effect. Brake check is next on the list.
9. Water heater electric element burned out. Got replacement at Lowes for $10.
10. Jensen TV is nice and Touch stereo works OK. Gotta upgrade speakers.
11. Lots of storage available!
12. Everything worked as it should except blown WH element!

Upgrade list so far:

1. Solar battery charger.
2. 110v sine wave inverter.
3. Add couple more batteries for boondocking.

One other thing. This one is equipped like a 2011 with the front treadplate and standard gas oven.

Glad you are enjoying your trailer. The first thing we learned with each of our 3 rigs was to first replace the mattress. We hope to meet you soon.

Added a 3" thick gel topper to the mattress and it is now pretty nice! A lot less expensive than a new mattress.

I just (like 3 days ago) added a 3rd battery to our Bighorn. If interested, you can find the details here.
