2019 - Goshen Rally - Entertainment - Your ideas!

We've already planned one evening of entertainment (Comedian Rik Roberts - details in post #1 of this thread).

We want to do another night of entertainment. We've received a lot of feedback that musical acts just aren't that great for everyone. Sure, we've had some really good ones in the past and some that were so-so and some that were too loud etc.

So what type of entertainment would interest you?

Even if you won't be attending this rally, I'd like to hear what type of entertainment you like.

We liked the hypnotist from a couple of rallies ago. An "R" rated one would be cool!! Not everyone is into bands.

We have always liked a magician / hypnotist that engages the audience in part of their routine. I have been pulled from the audience in the past and all though it is a little embarassing, it was a lot of fun.

I agree with everyone so far that music will have a wide variety of pros and cons. Not everyone enjoys my music and vice versa. Some like it loud and most don't. I think it would be hard to find a group that would satisfy the majority.

Just our .02 worth. We will try to be there as this would be the first time.

Thanks,

Mark and Roberta

I know it's subject to weather, but it would be nice for the entertainment to be outdoors. I know this past time it would have been hard because it did rain on the nights of the entertainment. Being stuck inside all winter and spring not cooperating this past year, we just wanted to be outside in the fresh air.

I second the idea of having a band or music act outdoors. Use one of the open shelters, folks can sit as near or far away as they want to be from the "volume". And likely more room for dancing too.

Another vote for outdoor music. Provide some transitional time after dinner before band starts also.

Another idea could be a casino themed night. Casino parties are usually pretty popular and not overly expensive.

Just thoughts.

Would love to have dueling pianos! Lots of great crowd participation - attendees make the song requests. Here is a possibility if budget allows: www.nynyduelingpianos.com

Casino night is a great idea

Also like magician/mentalist entertainment

For years, I have wanted to use that small outdoor stage in Heritage Park (by the clock tower) for an event. Trouble of course is the weather. My weather crystal ball is not working :) But I am still considering this. Everyone would have to bring their own chairs and there would be no shelter from the sun (if held during the day). So not ideal. But something different.

We really had fun the couple of times we had a hypnotist. Trouble with this is our long narrow rally hall. Only those near the stage can see what's going on, though we do usually have a camera trained on the stage and presented in the furthest part of the hall. I would like to do this again though. We'll see :)

I thought Gold Wing was great too. But not all share my enthusiasm for them to return. I am not considering them for 2019 :(

I agree! Even though that genre of music is not my thing, I know it resonates with a lot of our attendees. I "tried" and did hire a country western band for Goshen 2017 but I felt they ended up being duds. Bands cost a LOT of money and when only a super-small percentage of attendees stick around for it, it ends up being budget wasteful. This could be said for any band, any genre or really, any type of entertainment. With so many people and likes, it's hard to please all.

What if we risked it and had a musical band (Country Western?) play outdoors on that stage on Heritage Park (by the clock tower) - maybe in the evening as the sun is going down??

I find country music to be the most boring sound out there. I do understand this is a tough decision. Are you able to sell tickets to offset the budget drain in case folks do not show up to watch or is that kinda defeating the purpose of providing entertainment? I would pitch in if you booked Flogging Molly!

A DJ on the Outdoor Stage was done at a SOB Rally I attended at Goshen. The music was played in the afternoon and again after the dinner. It worked as the softer non loud soothing sounds where before dinner and cranked it up with Rock/ Country/Motown/Motorhead and such after dinner. The ability to sit further back allows the level to be less that dislike loud music.

“Woodstock” in Goshen. Local bands, of different generes, playing outside. Throughout the afternoon/evening.

After the 17 rally a bunch of us were talking and all agreed that the outdoor thing would be great. Get that crystal weather ball working Jim
