We also have a RW 427 with a crack above the living room slide. Spotted it yesterday. It is a 2019 and we picked it up in December. Calling dealer. This seems like a major fab problem and should be a recall. We don't have 6-8 weeks to allow for a fix. UGH.

Thanks for all who have shared.

Please take good pictures of this, inside and outside (or wherever crack is visible) and email pictures along with your VIN and contact info to service@heartlandrvs.com

Hi Jim,

I am also having the issue with a crack above my living room slide. I reached out to Heartland service advisor and was given 2 dealers near where I will be to take our 427 in for crack above slide repair. One was Camping World in Roanoke, VA and they said they will do any other warranty repair work but not cracks above slides. I also reached out to Mt. Joy in Buchanan, VA but had to leave a message. RV Outlet in Danville, VA has agreed to look at it but they are booked out through September. I am taking it by there this weekend.

Would it be better to have the repair completed at the manufacturing facility?
Is there a Heartland recommended process to make these repairs?

I am reaching out via this forum as I have been on hold several times trying to get someone in service at Heartland. And finally my call just gets disconnected. I have an email for an advisor but he did not make feel as if he was knowledgeable about the Heartland product. Forgive me if this is not the appropriate avenue to reach out but having a crack in my 2019, just had since December, camper is making me very uneasy.

Thanks

A good place to start looking for repair is to do websearches for "RV Collision Repairs" in your area. A significant portion of the RV community get into collisions just like the rest of the cars and trucks on the road. The RV collision specialists mainly work on the fiberglass bodies and underlying structures, and know this stuff pretty well; as that is their specialty. Heartland Service should give prior approval for warranty repair (if you qualify) from ANY RV repairer YOU CHOOSE.

Good Luck!

Thanks Bill. I will see what shops near us will take on the repair. Seems they shouldn't just fix the glass but also put reinforcement above the slide to prevent a second crack. I would hope it would be under warranty as it is a 2019 and we have only had it since December.

Thanks!

I wanted to respond for future crack issue seekers...

We had our RW repaired at Camping World in Myrtle Beach even though this is not where we purchased it. Bob Pierson from Heartland gave me the referral for their shop over the phone. We arranged for a day in October to let them have the rig and complete minor issues while obtaining photos for approvals for the big stuff. We scheduled the repair and other bigger warranty items for the month of December and they actually delivered a day earlier than promised, keeping it less than 30 days. I worked with Sean there and he communicated very well with me through the entire process, usually via email which works best for me.

Setting expectations at the front saved everyone from heartburn and communication is definitely key.

Thank you to everyone that responded on this thread!

Safe and happy travels!

What EXACTLY was the cause of the cracking, and what was the repair solution???

I have a 2015 heartland bighorn FB 3875. I just discovered a crack on the outside near the slide at the top. The crack is not on the slide but at the top of the RV. I also went inside the RV and noticed that a matching crack was on the inside at the same location the crack from the outside is. I was wondering what this could be and how dangerous it is for me to continue using the RV. I am on a 6-month vacation tour throughout the Midwest and West. I really don't want to have to cancel my trip to take it to a repair shop at my location any suggestions or if anybody can tell me what caused it, I would really appreciate it. Thanks

We had a crack on the side wall on our Road Warrior and Heartland allowed us to go Affinity RV Group in Goshen, Ind. for repairs. But our rig was a 2018 and it was in May 2020 when we found it. We went into Affinity on June 22 and back out July 3rd. Our work was warranty claim because of the 3 year structure warranty. We did not have any damage on the inside, just the outside wall. But call Heartland with your vin and allot of pictures documenting it. Send me a PM if you want the contact information for Affinity RV Group.
