Do you plan to travel North, East or West of the Sierra Nevada Mountains? That is (East) Nevada 95 or U.S. 395; or (West) Ca. 99 or I-5???

What time of the year are you planning on coming up to Tahoe? If you need any info, just send me a PM. We camp about 5-6 times a year at Tahoe. We can leave home in Sparks, NV and in 90 minutes be set up and enjoying the lake. Have no suggestions on camping between Vegas and Tahoe for you. Safe travels.

While I am not familiar with this route, I want to remind you that you will be travelling through the HOT Nevada desert in July. I hope you can find a in-route campground with good electricity and a swimming pool to cool down in. It can take a LONG time to cool down a rig once you set up for the night in extreme hot weather. My only suggestion would be to look over your route with a mapping application, at the same time checking RVParkReviews.com for possible sites near towns of interest. I found 6 listed in Beatty, 2 in Goldfield, and 3 in Tonopah.

Be thinking about what a strain this couple of days of desert driving will put on your truck engine, and be prepared. Also be prepared to possibly get stuck in the desert in an area with FEW populated towns. The US 395 route in California has more populated towns. You may want to check cellphone coverage maps before finalizing your route. Also be prepared to climb the mountain grade on Ca. Hwy 120 as you enter the Yosemite East entrance. Tioga Pass is listed at near 10,000 feet elevation. Good Luck, and enjoy Yosemite!!! The government shutdown SHOULD be over by July, and there would be full services in the park again.

We went thru Vegas to go to the Sparks NV rally a couple years ago. We stopped overnight in Tonopah NV, which is about half way. There is a casino in town with a small rv park and full hookups; perfect for an overnight rest and leaving on to Tahoe the next morning. Nothing fancy but a good stop for food and sleep. There isn't much else between but this is the most direct route.
