We also made our carrier using a 5 in fence post, but added a piece of gutter with dividers. This tray allows you to pull out as required.

I did exactly the same thing but with a white fence post. Works great. Mine is further back and the only problem if I hit a really deep dip it will crush the post.

Just curious ... how do you attach your end cap ..?

Caps are held in place with a 1/4-20 6” long stainless hex head bolt on end that opens. The sealed end is screwed in place with self tapping screws
