Have seen the ad in Trailer Life for it claiming it's "New" and all, plus avail at Wally World. Product has a good thing going for home septic so ought to be good for RV's you'd think. So went to WM and it's not on the shelf, nor in any RV dealer. Called company up and was told it's being pulled and possibly updated. However, while on the phone w/ them, told them I see it's avail they WM web site and was told if I want it to get it from them and has a few year shelf life. So my question is: If it's a brand new product, ads in magazines, yet it's pulled already from shelves, what gives?

Rid-X advertises heavily. About 30 years ago they advised home owners to add a box each month. I used it - as directed - for several years.

However, Independent Sewer Specialists recommended AGAINST using it in your home septic system. Their explanation was (as I recall) monthly use breaks down too much tank stuff, allowing said stuff to pass thru the tank and into the drainage field, which eventually clogs up with this debris. Their answer was to completely stop using Rid-X and periodically have the tank pumped out.

I had my tank drained about 12-15 years ago (they said afterwards it wasn't necessary) and again (being pro-active) this past winter ($300)- when heavy trucks parked on (and collapsed) my field, another $1900. Based on that info alone pumping my tank once every 12 years is cheaper than a drain field. And likely cheaper than the monthly cost of Rid-x.

With all that said, your RV tank is a totally different thing. There are many ideas about keeping it fresh.
I use the rinse feature every time I dump, then I add calgon, dish soap and several gal. of water. So far so good.

I guess I should add this in - my stuff doesn't stink! YMMV.

I use just water and flush my tank out good each time I dump. I never put any type of chemicals in the tank and have never had a problem in 5 yrs. of full timing. Just a big money maker when theses companies say you need all these products for your RV.

Same as Piperflyer. Oh I used to use chemicals but now I do not. Only difference is the color of the water that comes out. Been chem free for about 3 years.

I have used RidX and saw no benefit. It was the household variety.

No odor problems either way.

Rid-X Mad its name on using LIVE Bacterial Cultures. The most recent iteration of Rid-X has Enzymes only, no live cultures. Enzymes are biologically produced catalysts that accelerate chemical reactions.
