This Heartland Electrical Safety Recall affects 5,598 trailers. The bell cap electrical connection for the air conditioning units may not be crimped as specified and may cause a failure of the connection.

Summary
Heartland Recreational Vehicles, LLC (Heartland) is recalling certain 2017 Bighorn Traveler, 2016-2020 Elkridge, Elkridge Ex, 2019-2020 Milestone, 2017-2018 North Peak, 2016-2017 Oakmont, 2017-2020 Pioneer FW, 2016-2018 Prowler FW, 2017-2019 Sundance, and Sundance XLTFW trailers.
According to the company’s Safety Recall Report to the NHTSA, the recall issue is contained to plant 7b because it was using bell cap connectors and all other plants use wire nuts wrapped in black electrical tape. There is a specific tool that is supposed to be used when crimping the bell cap. The tool was provided but was not always used to crimp the connection. The plant stopped using bell cap connectors and began using wire nuts and tape around 1 year ago but the exact date of the change is not known.
In certain trailers, the bell cap electrical connection for the air conditioning units may not be crimped as specified. This could allow resistance and heat to build up in the connection and cause a failure which could result in property damage, personal injury, and/or death.
The Heartland Electrical Safety Recall remedy will be to replace the bell caps with yellow twist-on wire nuts and then wrapped with black electrical tape. Wire Nuts are industry standard electrical connectors.
Remedy
Heartland will notify owners, and dealers will correct the electrical connections, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin on September 6, 2019. Owners may contact Heartland customer service at 1-877-262-8032. Heartland’s number for this recall is 99.01.47.
