Ac comes on when furn is selected

Ok I’m scratching my head. 44 degrees in bighorn, set thermo to 60 select furnace, and a/c comes on. At one point both ac and furnace on at same time.?????

Turn off the ac.
Then select furnace and set your desired temperature.

Also make sure you have the fan set to Auto. If you have the fan set on High or Low, the fan for the AC will run while the furnace runs (but the compressor will be off). Set the fan to Auto and you will only get the furnace blower.
