Attaching curtain rod above front door

If you were adding a curtain rod, would you first attach a length of matching stain wood over the top of the door frame door so as to hit studs then fix the rod brackets to the wood, or use the dry screw wall anchors supplied?
I am not so sure about the latter.
Thanks.

We use 3M hooks for all of our curtain rods. They have worked well even for our bigger windows that require a heavier curtain rod. Our biggest window needs a hook in the middle for extra support.

it depends on the weight of the curtain..... I think most would be fine with installing the rod brackets directly to the wall.... there are going to holes made either way, and if the brackets dont stay put, you can always build a backing board later, which will cover over any failure of your first attempt....
