We have heard our friends, neighbors, and strangers talk about great times on the Frio and Gardner State Park. Heading there on Sunday to Parkview RV Resort. Making memories, wash, rinse, and reload!

Input is is welcome on things to do in the immediate area other than floating the river with a cold beer. That will take up 3/4 or more of out time. I'm so ready

We have camped there several times and enjoyed the river, but there's not a whole lot else to do in the area. It's a pretty good drive to restaurants and grocery stores and Verizon is pretty much a no go in that area. The river and just relaxing kept us happy.

Welcome to God's Country, this may be your first trip up there, but probably won't be your last. I was born and raised down the road in Uvalde and spent almost every evening during the summers on the Garner Park dance floor. Haven't been to the "Park" in years, but stayed at Park Side last Thanksgiving. Here are some ideas for the area: Concan Neals Lodges Café in down town Concan, very good food also some shopping around the café area http://www.nealsdiningroom.com/ ; House Pasture Cattle Co. have never eaten there, but have heard it is good http://www.housepasture.com/ ; Golf at Concan http://www.clubatconcan.com/ Leakey: My neice lives in Leakey and tells me that the Bent Rim Grill is one of their favorite places for hamburgers, etc. The Motorcycle Stop/Bent Rim Grill http://www.friocanyonmotorcyclestop.com/grill.htm

Have fun, and enjoy yourselves.

Thanks George, for spending the time to give these recommendations. Feedback coming when we return.

We stayed at Parkview Riverside over Thanksgiving in 2013. The owner hosted a great feast of roasted and deep fried turkey. We drove up to Lost Maples state park via the town of Utopia. We had a steak dinner at the Mill Creek Cafe in Leakey. Just as we finished, two dusty, bow legged cowboys walked in the door with a big Heinz 57 mutt. All three sauntered up to the bar and the dog raised up and put its front feet on the bar. I waited for the punchline but it never came.

It's a great place to chill out. We stay at Parkview every year in mid July and we have spot #4 that backs up to the river right by the big rope tree swing so we can sit up there and watch the kids from our camp site. Floating the river is about all there is to do. I enjoy just taking a cooler full of beer down to the river there at the campsite and hang out in the water, drink beer and watch the kids and older people who think they are still kids, go off the rope swings. Make sure you have plenty of beer because it is dry there in Concan so you will have to drive about 8 miles to Leakey if you need any adult beverages. Stock up on ice also because it is $5 for a 20# bag at the campsite store. Have a great time and relax!
