The Rally Facility

Hook up your rig and grab your lederhosen, head south on I-19 from Tucson to Amado, AZ for The Arizona Chapter’s Oktoberfest 2018 at De Anza RV Resort. For the Saturday potluck, what sounds better than brats and beer to start the celebration? We supply the brats and you bring your favorite beverage. For reservations call De Anza RV Resort (520) 398-8628 or (888) 398-8628 and tell them you are with the Heartland Owners Club rally, provide them with your credit card info for a deposit. We have a hold on 20 sites so start making your reservations now, but no later than August 1, 2018. All sites are full hookup including cable TV. Sites will be assigned by the park staff when you register with De Anza RV Resort on arrival. If we have more than 19 rigs site cost will be $28.80. The resort says that they can give us more sites beyond the 20 blocked if needed.

Please be sure to post or PM me after making your reservation with your dates, HOC # and number attending.

The Area

Amado, AZ is an area rich in history with many interesting sites to visit. You will find visitor information in your registration packets. Explore and have fun.
If you are in to shopping, just south of Amado is the historical and arts community of Tubac with many shops to explore. Tubac is also home of the Tubac Presidio State Historic Park. Further south a few miles is Tumacacori Mission a National Historic Park giving you a glimpse into life here in the 1700s. The Santa Cruz Spice Company store nearby sells a vast array of spices, rubs, seasonings and gifts. You won’t be disappointed. To the east is Whipple Observatory visitor center. In Green Valley you can visit the Titan Missile Museum and further north is the Mission San Xavier del Bac a Catholic Mission dating from the 1700’s and still in use today. A birder’s paradise, Madera Canyon in the Santa Rita mountains, is nearby with plenty of hiking trails. Desert Diamond Casino is also only a short drive north of Green Valley off I-19. Lots more to see and do in the area and we’ll have more info coming soon.

GAMES NIGHT:

During the games night we will have a game called Derby Dice. Derby Dice is played with dice and a roll of dimes. Bob our De Anza host will run the game. We will need to play in couples otherwise the game could run on for a long time. You might walk away with all the dimes in play. We will have a few (9) rolls of dimes available for those who might not have the dimes.

What to bring: a $5.00 roll of dimes and your beverage of choice and be ready to have a great time.

BUFFET BREAKFAST:

After reviewing our budget for this rally we have a few extra $'s, so the chapter is going to cover the sales tax and gratuity for the Saturday breakfast. The cost for each plate will be $10.00. Payment for breakfast will be collected at registration.

A new addition to the rally schedule:

On Friday 10/12 from 8:00 am until 3:30 pm La Mesa RV from Tucson will display 3 Heartland coaches. In the morning La Mesa will provide coffee and pastry for our rally and all park residents and in the afternoon hours ice cream will be served as well.

OBSERVATORY TOUR:

Great news – the observatory tour is on and it’s free. We have been working on a firm commitment by the observatory to provide a tour of the mountain top facility. The holdup has been due to construction and maintenance on the road to the summit. The construction is not complete all the way to the top so we will only be able to tour the ridge top facilities which still offer spectacular views. This will be a shorter tour of approx. 3 1/2 hours so the bus will return us to the base camp and visitor center at around 12:30 PM. There is a picnic area at the base camp if you wish to bring a sack lunch after the tour. The visitor center at base camp offers interpretive displays and a small gift shop. The volunteers in the visitor center will answer your questions and offer their knowledge of the entire complex. We have had several cancellations which have opened 12 seats on the bus to the observatory. If you wish to go on this excursion please let me know and I will add you to the tour.

The weather is not looking real good on Friday. We are trying to contact the observatory to see how we could be affected.

Please plan on carpooling due to limited parking at base camp.

Rose and I drove to De Anza today to make our reservation and ask about early arrivals and late departures and also get clarification on Credit Card info.

Rally rates apply for early arrivals and late departures and the resort is really excited about the number of attendees that have registered so far.

When a reservation is made your credit card is not charged until your arrival and registration with De Anza RV Resort.

A change to the agenda. Jim Beletti has offered to cook scrambled eggs on Sunday morning 10/14, so I have added a potluck breakfast for Sunday morning. If you wish, bring a side dish or just plan on coming for a meal to get you going for the drive home if you are leaving that day. This would be a great time for hugs and to say your goodbyes. Thank you Jim!
