We usually stay at Twin Spruce when in Ruidoso..... upper section of the park is nice with lots of trees, but, very steep roads to get to sites. On the outskirts of town, near the race track is Circle B, very nice park and would be great for an overnight spot. I would recommend reservations for either park.....they fill up quickly during the summer.

Have stayed at Rainbow Lake RV park on Carrizo Canyon Rd about half way between town and the Inn of the Mountain Gods Casino in Ruidoso. Not a big fancy park, but the same people go back year after year. It is by far my favorite, in fact, I very well may be there for a few days around the end of July or first of August, don't know exactly when yet. Do make reservations.

X2 for Circle B in Ruidoso, (actually Ruidoso Downs). Nice sized sites, pretty quiet, nice store. It is a little farther out from most of the "attractions", but that didn't bother us. Nothing's too far in Ruidoso.

Looking for a place to stay at both places in August.

We are going to the Blues Festival Memorial Day weekend in Silver City. We will be staying at the KOA that is about 2 miles out of town but we have two 13 year old boys and need the kid activities. Will let you know what it is like when we return.

As SilverRhino, we have stayed at Twin Spruce. It is nice and fairly convenient to the attractions in both directions. All of the fifty amp sites are on the first level so if and when you make reservations point out that you need fifty amp (if you want it) and I would for sure make reservations especially in the summer.

Thanks for sharing your experiences. I have been to Ruidoso many times, just not recently or in an RV. The horse races were a big part of my childhood. We are now considering adding and/or substituting Chama, Red River, Angel Fire, or other area of N. NM. Any thoughts or ideas? Looking for a place near some good hiking and fishing. Wouldn't mind some boondocking or with minimal hookups in a NF or state park. Some place that is riverside would be nice too.

Have been to Chama, we stayed at Sky Mountain Resort. Peaceful and simple, a little away from Chama but very nice. Get a back in site if you can, pull throughs are kind of in the miffle with no trees and mostly gravel.

We rode the train from Chama to Antonito, awesome experience! Breathtaking scenery! Even saw a small herd of Elk run across the tracks, stop and watch us go by. Great photo ops galore.

Thank you Erika. That is one of the areas we are interested. Have you ever been in the Orilla Verde Recreation Area outside of Taos. There are supposed to be a couple BLM campgrounds with a few 50A sites, Rio Bravo and Pilar Campgrounds.

FWIW, I talked to the Rio Grande Gorge visitors center. There are the two BLM parks on the river, Rio Bravo and Pilar Campgounds that have E&W. They only have about a dozen sites, between the two, with 50A and water, and big rig access, but no WW dumps. They are on a 1st come basis. No reservations. They are about 15 mi south of Taos and $15/night, $7.50 w senior pass.

We just came back yesterday from the Bike and Blues Festival in Silver City. We stayed at the Silver City KOA ( 2 miles from downtown) and it was very nice. Pull throughs and full hookups and a very short walk to restrooms, pool and the store. Restrooms were extremely clean and they clean them three times a day. On the weekends they have a pancake/waffle breakfast with eggs, bacon, sausage, orange juice and coffee for $5.95 and you eat on a nice outdoor patio. Owners of the park, Jon and Chris are always available and are extremely helpful and nice. Highly recommend.
