We're looking at spending a couple weeks of winter at the Thousand Trails Lakewood campground in Harlingen Tx.
Has anyone been there recently?
Recommendations for things to see and do?
Great places to eat?
Security issues?
A good place to tour on a motorcycle?

Thanks!

We've never stayed at that park, or in Harlingen itself, but have been coming to Mission for about 10 years. There are many sights to see in the area, an exact replica of the Iwo Jima memorial in Harlingen, many museums, visit nearby S. Padre Island for the prettiest beachfront in Texas, the birding and butterfly center in Mission are just a few of the places to see. Any type of food is available in the Valley area, with all major restaurants represented. As stated, we've been coming to the area for a long time and have had no security issues at all.

Have fun on your visit.

We stay in Los Fresnos. Down that way we go to Port Isabel and S Padre Island quite a bit.
Los Fresnos-Julia’s. The Palo Alto National battlefield. Nearby is the Laguana Atascoa wildlife viewing area
Port Isabel-joes oyster bar, pelican station, causeway cafe & bar. Get a massage at Virginia’s salon!!
SPI-Pier 19, Claytons. Sea turtle rescue center. Several boat tours in the bay of the Brownsville harbor, dolphin watch, fishing party boats.
Farmers mkt at Donna. Big flea mkt near Donna too
Bring your passport. A lot of winter Texans visit across the border in Nuevo Progresso
If you’re there in February there’s a kite festival on SPI and a rodeo in Los Fresnos
Pick up one of many weeklies for winter Texans. Lots of info in them too
Believe it or not, most housing and RV communities in the valley are behind a WALL with a GATE. See the irony of that in today’s xxxxxxxxx climate!!! Security hasn’t been an issue for us either
